I'm not saying opinions do not matter, everyone's has a right to

For example, this individual who has done CK for "years" without a
permit. Instead of "voting him off the island" maybe someone,
explaining to him why it is now more important than ever, to "get the
permit" would be more conducive to the masses on this board than
making him out to be an "***" Old school mind set is no reason to

Hey, bought my permit when it came to my attention that it was a requirement to use state trust land. Yes prior to that I did not have one nor new it was needed.
This is really about the law. Not a pissing match. I am not fond of the permit the way they stand now but I have to have one to avoid a massive fine when caught without one.
Actually hope to see you in CK.

is have you seen even 1/2 of the stuff that BLM has been attempting to do...
As a group we have been at land meetings, we have done clean up runs, we
have written letters and sent emails. Members have given up their time and
money to fight the bureaucracy of the BLM and help bring a positive view of
our sport to Joe Public. When you post something saying that you're above
the law and the rules don't apply to you, you're going to have people not to
happy. Until I joined this group I had no idea about any of the land being
off limits or needing a permit. Now that I know I have a permit and I try
and do my part to keep the trails open.
I hope that you see that $15 is a small price to pay when it comes to
keeping a trail open. Please pick up a permit.
While I don't agree with each person needing a permit, I will be picking up
a permit for my girlfriend so that everyone in my jeep is covered. I hope
you change your mind and pick up a permit before you go to CK. I also hope
the check people on the trail this weekend. If they do I am covered.

Here is a link from the Arizona trust land web site. This interactive map allows you to see exactly were State trust lands are located.

After looking at this map it appears that the trail to Crown King from lake pleasant crosses Trust Land numerous times.
But the Route from I-17 or (Turkey Creek)Bumble Bee through to Cleator does not come close to any State Land.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

I would probably go with the lighter Chrom-Moly. I also would maybe try
to make all arms the same length (if possible) so that I could carry
just one spare.
After seeing what Scott K. did to a Chrom-Moly track bar anything is
possible or in this case bendable.

I am getting everything together to build my long arms, just deciding
what kind of steel to use.
A. Chrom-Moly 1 5/8 x .120
B. DOM 1 3/4 x .25
I know there was a large discussion about Chrom-Moly regarding the tie
rods, but lets not get into that one again. Do you think Chrom-Moly
would hold up?

In any case I hope the person does lighten up and get a permit.

I would take it to someplace like Midas or Just Brakes and let them do a free inspection of the brakes. Don't tell them up front that your just looking for a free inspection, or they may charge you a fee. Act like your going to let them do the work, but need to know what and how much......then tell them you can't afford it or it's too much and then let the group know what they say you need. There are plenty of us who have brake knowledge and would be willing to help you fix what they diagnose for you.

Well, the only comment I will make is make sure to pick a size of tube that can be machine and threaded for joints if thats what you plan on doing. Becuase if that the case, you will have to pick tubing with inside dimesion in mind as well as overall strength and thickness.
If ID is not an issue and you are just going to weld on your ends, then get the biggest stuff out there. I here the light poles in Gilbert are pretty strong. Cut one of those down and have enough for several sets.
Sorry, still on vacation. Could only be serious for so long

Ed,
I don't have a map of the Turkey Creek area in front me but I believe you are correct. I "think" Bumble Bee through Cleator clears State Trust Lands. If you travel between Cordes Junction to Crown King you will cross State Trust Lands. Our problem in Arizona is many public lands are landlocked within State Trust Lands which makes for severe "access" problems......... State Trust Lands are so boggled with small patches everywhere we never know where we are.
If you have time you might want to stop at the Public Lands Information Center located at 222 N. Central. They have every map you would need and they are color coded by land ownership......... These maps will depict BLM, State Trust, Indian, Forest Service, Dept. of Reclamation, wilderness areas, reserves/preserves and private lands........... they are not perfect but they most definitely are the most up to date you'll find anywhere. They will print anything you want while you wait but also have a full stock of "Access Guides" for trails in select portions of the state. All areas are working towards developing these maps but it's a long process. Many guides and maps are free....... others are $4.00 - $8.00.
The PLIC is located inside the southeast corner of the BLM State Office Building at the southwest corner of Central and Van Buren. If you park in the parking structure off Van Buren, between Central and 1st Avenue, they will validate your parking ticket......... Lots of information and maps here.
Take care, Sandee

Here is a link from the Arizona trust land web site. This interactive map allows you to see exactly were State trust lands are located.
http://www.sco.az.gov/website/arizona/viewer.htm
After looking at this map it appears that the trail to Crown King from lake pleasant crosses Trust Land numerous times.
But the Route from I-17 or (Turkey Creek)Bumble Bee through to Cleator does not come close to any State Land.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello All,
Jeffrey Trujillo is leading a FR-42 trail run on Saturday, August 24, 2002.
When: 7:00
Where: Beginning of trail at Bartlett Lake.
Rating: 3.0+
Length: 4-5 Hours
CB Channel: 4
Thought it would be nice to do a night trip. But, we need someone who knows the trail really good. Especially at night. I've been there once but during the day. So if you're interested in leading let me know. Cell 480-213-1976.
Remember to bring plenty of water (it's still hot at night).
We might stop and take a night swim if anybody wants to. If we don't get many people because of the anniversary run then we'll do it another weekend.

Ed,
I don't have a map of the Turkey Creek area in front me but I believe you are correct.

Don't tell them up front that your just looking for a free inspection, or they may charge you a fee. Act like your going to let them do the work, but need to know what and how much......then tell them you can't afford it or it's too much and then let the group know what they say you need. There are plenty of us who have brake knowledge and would be willing to help you fix what they diagnose for you.

Yes THE LAW IS THE LAW!!! If he doesn't get a
permit....WHO CARES!?!?!?!?! If he gets caught, he
will be paying the government alot more than it would
cost for a permit. It is fine to deliver your concern
to the individual. Here's what I am saying.....If you
have an issue with this, and I am not saying that I
don't, send it to him off list. Lately, this seems to
be the majority of our posts.

There is also a map online at:
http://www.sco.az.gov/website/arizona/viewer.htm
but you have to compare it to a topo map in order to figure out where the trails are in relation to it.

Also, according to the online map, the "Turkey Creek" trail is all on BLM and Private (mining claims).
