You may not be paying sales tax but you will pay shipping and handling so
your $579 will now be over $600.

Thanks. I already contacted them and the ARB is $579 (no sales tax-out
of state.)

To match that price locally I'd need somebody who was willing to sell it
as low as $545. ($589 w/ tax)

I'll call Barry at 4 Wheelers and see how low he's willing to go.

I used to run that setup on my YJ, but it is sloppy on the road and rattles.
The upper pin of the stock swaybar link can already be used the same way.
But it has to be lubed up to slip in and out of the bushing easily. I ran
them that way for a while also.

I can't afford some "real" disconnects so would this a be temporary

Randy or whoever,

Randy, where did you get the Johny Joints for your steering setup?

Is there a place on the web that shows the specifications for different
joints. I am looking for one that the ball/joint part can rotate at least
30* and has at least a 1/2" or 9/16" hole in it the strength needs to be
high also. Is there a place in the valley that would sell a joint like this?

Thanks,

I order mine from the manufacture (National Rod end). They have 3/4" holes
and you can get them in an angularity up to 55deg. I use the 55deg on my
connecting rod (drag link) and the 23deg on my tie rode. They are rated at
48klbs of axial force. These are the same rod ends used on Indy race cars.
You have to have an account setup with them to purchase from them. I can
make copies of the catalogue pages and get them to you if you would like.
Then when you find what you want let me know and I will order them for you.

P.S. They are not Johnny joints they spherical rod ends.

You can get them from Currie, for one, in at least three (last time I check)
different sizes (2", 2.5" and 3"). They allow 30* unrestricted movement in
all directions. The ones I have (I think they are 2" or 2.5") take a 9/16's
bolt.

62953 From: FredTJ <fredtj@c...>
Date: Mon Aug 12, 2002 8:33am
Subject: Tried the new auto on Sunday

Swapped out my existing xfer case (with the 4:1) on Saturday for one with
the stock low range (2.72 : 1) and also has the 2wd low (as did my "old"
one). Sunday, took it out for a run, medium hard with some optional tough
spots (4.0 ~ 4.5 trail). I did most of the optional tough areas (with
standing water to add some, mmmm, excitement to it)..
First impressions with the auto, holy crap, why'd I wait so long to swap the
auto in !!!!!!!!!
Even without the 4:1, I have better crawl ratio with the auto (expected).
Everything was as expected, but I still couldn't believe it till I actually
got out and worked it some !!
It's taking a little getting use to using the left foot for braking (when on
the trail).
Going up really steep, really rocky stuff, even wet with sand and some mud,
I can simply crawl right up it with no wheel spin at all !!!!! I'm really,
really pleased with it.
I still have a couple of little issues to work out. The cooling needs some
work. I have a stacked plate tranny cooler that we mounted in front of the
radiator. With that, the engine, just on hot days, with the A/C, runs a
little warming than "normal". The tranny temp is normally fine, maybe a
little cool even, running around 160 ~ 175. The hottest it got was 210,
yesterday. Even though that's "normal" range, I want it to run a little
cooler, on these bloody hot days, crawling slow on the rocks. I ordered an
electric fan (puller), and it'll be here tomorrow. I'm 99.99% sure that'll
fix it.
I have a mechanical, non-clutch, flex fan in it now, but it leaves around
1.5 ~ 2 inches of space around the shroud, and it's allowing some air to be
pulled in around the fan, instead of through the radiator.
That's the only real thing to fix up. I do need to do something with the
rear brakes, such as switching to disks. Once yesterday, when on a really,
really, really steep, extremely rocky section, I had to back down it some to
get back to the Jeep behind me. He had slipped off a rock, almost flopped it
on it's side, and we thought we were going to have to strap him (turned out
we didn't have to). In reverse on that extremely steep area, it was
shockingly hard to hold it with almost all the vehicle weight handled by the
rear drums.
Going down steep declines (going forward), I actually have some engine
braking, though less than I had with the manual and the 4:1. It's easy to
descend (forward) with the brakes.
Anyway, I'm really excited about the whole swap !

Best,
Fred

I think that would be a good thing, If it doesn't require us to Inc.
ourselves because of the obvious differences of opinion, yet gives us
the voice that we should have, then what the hell are we waiting for.
I would donate some of the money.

I know I sent this out a month ago, but this time it has more info. This may be coming to the American market. This is more info at . . . http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b080902.htm . It still looks funny in the back with the wheel so far back.

That was written out of Federal Regs, wasn't it, well at least that
is what I thought, did someone tell you that or did you see it on the
web site which posts their Sections, Titles of federal regulations.

IMO it won't be manufactured. Even though it will be embrassed by the
Jeeping community, there is not enough of a market to sell these
vehicles. DC has stated that they want to sell 10's of millions of
vehicles, this is why the change from the off road capable Cherokee
to the less than capable but, more street worthy Liberty.
Basically, there are not enough yuppies/boomers out there that would
buy this vehicle. So it will die. JMO
