We have known for a while that GM/Hummer would build a Wrangler style vehicle. The HX is the prequel to the Production H4 in 2010.

If the top and doors don't come off, I really wouldn't give it a second look. However, if GM plays it smart, it will be a very capable vehicle. You can count on a 4:1 TC like in the H3, at least one locker, probably two, and if their smart, a straight axle up front. I imagine at least 33" tires. It will at least be a FJ killer, and give lower model Jeeps a run for it's money (and maybe the Rubi).

Yes....BUT we all know that hummer will go cheap and not offer a SFA or a front locker

Damn it Jeep, why do you never listen to your customers? We have been wanting a truck.... Humer did it and sold a ton. We wanted a 4 door wrangler, Hummer did it first and sold a ton. Now We want a diesel.... I would be willing to bet that the Hummer POS will have it before our beloved Wrangler does!
This HX or whatever will take yet more market share from the Wrangler simply because Jeep doesnt listen.

I heard that!!

My next project will be a Willys Wagon with a Diesel.

Or maybe a Full Size Wagoneer with a Diesel.

Willys would be cooler, Wagoneer with 4 doors would be more practical.

American car makers have said for years they don't think Americans will buy diesels in the volume Europeans do. Some due to the history of diesels made in America for passenger cars and truck, noise levels, and smell of diesel.

Me I think they just don't like how long they last. Worried that more diesels on the road equals less total sales volume in the long run.

American auto makers have for years given Americans what they thought Americans wanted while the Japaneese did. Some of this was due to much longer turn around times from idea to production, much less of an issue now.

Me I would love to see them bring back the old Willys style 3B's, Pickups, and Wagons with something like the 2.7 or 3.3 diesels that they put in Willys in India, South America, and Japan that got over 20 miles to the gallon.

"I have a dream, a dream of clean buring, high MPG, off road butt kicking, diesel Jeeps".

I just had another class with an H3. Don't even say H2 in my presence, but an H3 can actually do some wheeling! 111" WB, rear locker, 33" tires, skids and rocker guards--she came ready to PLAY! Stock for stock, I would say it gives a 4-door Sahara a run for the money, but can't touch the Rubi. And the visibility SUCKS. I kept having to roll the window down so I wouldn't hyperventilate with claustrophobia. :D

Visibility is one of the big problems with the FJ too. You can't see anything around you.
