To raise the money for such an affiliation a club run like the one next week would be perfect!

How much interest would there be in having the AzVJC join United as an association.

United's rules don't require us to be incorporated, or organized any more than we already are.
Rumor has it that we may be able to join for $100/year instead of the typical $10/person/year.

United has been fighting land closures pretty successfully. The funds to join would be completely gathered by voluntary donations. This would also give us a voice (2 delegates?) in United.

Food for thought, if this is possible -- details to come.

Just a note to inform the group that I will be gone to the Rubicon Trail all next week. I have stopped e-mails and won't be checking until I return. I am disappointed that my trip conflicted with the CK Anniversary run. I am returning the day of it and won't be able to make it. I hope everyone has a great time and that it does not rain as much as it did last year. If anyone needs to get ahold of me e-mail directly to h8pvmnt@hotmail.com

Hello all, yesterday my radiator blew. Pretty horrific experience, I
barely got off the 101 before it blew. For those of you that may
have purchased a radiator from radiator.com, you might want to check
the SIDES of the radiator, the seems on the side of mine split open
resulting in fluid loss and the infamous "white smoke" pouring out.
I figured I would let everyone that bought a radiator from them to
check theirs for potentional problems. I bought mine in november of
2001. They did replace it for free, but my question is since it was
their faulty radiator, should they pay for the labor ($170) I had to
pay to get the new one back in? Just a thought, some of my friends
say they (radiator.com) should pay for it? Suggestions...anything?
(yes I know, I or some other members could have done it for free but
I was on 24th st and the 101, stuck)

What exactly are all of the benefits to this?
Also, some of us (like me) are already United members either directly or
indirectly via an ASA4WDC membership. I have no problem with donating
to the club's United membership in addition to paying for my ASA4WDC
membership. But I'd sure hate to discourage people from joining the
ASA4WDC. (I'm not sure this would happen but I don't really know.)

Mike,
If you haven't shut off your email yet or if you are still accessing
the Yahoo Groups board, then I'd suggest that when you're out there
try to take in the Fordice Creek trail also (its where they do the
Sierra Trek). I did it for the first time after doing the usual
Rubicon run when I was out there last month and it's awsome. It's
Rubiconish and the scenery is better in my opinion. And there are
lots of swimming places in the creek, but the water is cold. Just go
north of Tahoe to Truckee, then west on I-80 about 30 miles or so to
Cisco Grove, then turn off onto the trail going north.

Have fun,
Larry

Joining UFWDA? Not that I think it is a bad thing, but I am a member
of ASA4WDC and as part of their fee it covers membership in UFWDA.
As a matter of fact I happen to be a member of the CA4WDC and SWFWDA
both of which are members of UFWDA. So I belong to three
organizations that already give a portion of my membership fee to
UFWDA. UFWDA publishes the United Voice quarterly newsletter. Want
to guess how many copies of United Voice per issue I receive?
Three! I'll bet there are others in AZVJC that may be in a similar
position. Well, I have never looked into paying for UFWDA three
times a year through these three associations as I just figured that
UFWDA was a good thing. However, I am not sure that I want to pay
them four times a year.

I would like to purpose that the Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC) might be
another organization worthy of donations. Since there may be a
number of AZVJC members who already contribute to UFWDA through other
avenues. It seems to me that from being a member of UFWDA for the
last 15 years that the organization is all about keeping lands open.
Carla Boucher has done some tremendous work the last couple of years
and I know we all appreciate that. Believe me I don't want to lose
my access to public lands after all that I have invested in my
lifestyle which is dependent on those lands. However, it is going to
take just more that the 4 wheel drive community to keep the lands
open to recreationists such as us. The BRC seems fairly board based
in its membership (check out this link)

Yes, I know about Tread Lightly. However I think Phil Howell's
editorial summed up my feelings pretty well about that organization.
http://www.extreme4x4.com/departments/extreme_view/tread_lightly.html

The main benefit, as I see it, as Mike points out is the two
delegates to the UFWDA convention. How would AZVJC select
delegates? In many cases the association-level members substantially
assist in paying for delegates to attend the annual convention.
Would a candidate for a delegate position have to be willing to self-
fund his or her participation in the annual convention? Is AZVJC
willing to fund the delegates' vacations to the annual conference and
wheeling? I think there are number of issues for a non-organization
organization trying to behave like an organization.

Just my $0.0005 or less.

I thought you had to call and check on the flow level in the creek
to make sure it's low enough. (The flow is controlled via a dam.)
Otherwise, you won't be able to make the crossings and I believe
there are multiple crossings.

But I've never been there - this is just from what I've read.

?????,
Just because you are donating 3 times, or what would be a fourth,
doesn't mean everyone is. It's only a hundred bucks and I am not sure
anyone would get anything from it. Be it a newsletter or what. I know we
have tried to be associated with several organizations but have been
denied because of our unorganization. Tread Lightly, AZA4WDC to name a
couple.

You or anyone could organize a drive to donate whatever to any worthy
cause. I think the idea Mike is suggesting that the club become
affiliated with UFWDA.

Am I right?

But then again you have square headlights so maybe a parking lot curb would
be best for you.

Allan,
Check out the club website. Any run 3 will be doable. With some
experience you will quickly move to 3.5 and some 4 rated trails.
