was hoping to hit a good window in the variable weather today, and succeeded, making my geocaching trek for the most part, superb.
aired down at Watson Road, visited the "Cliff Cache" (took nothing, left nothing, signed log) first before heading out to visit the "Mule Cache" (took emergency blanket, left mini pocket knife, signed log) where it was necessary to find it with the pictures posted in the thread of the same name. Next, since I was headed north, I took all off-roads clear to the "PVC Cache" (took nothing, left mini flashlight and Pirate Duck) where I was met with a challenging climb to the peak, guarded by a variety of cactus and a rock face requiring some common sense and skill to avoid personal injury. Then, since I was already at altitude, I looked to my NE where, posted on GeoCaching.com, just .2 miles away (okay, so it was two or three higher peaks away, and another 300 feet higher, with nothing but rugged climbing), I attempted to locate another cache, which hadn't been seen for nearly a year, and had been reported as 'not found' by the last to try about a month ago, but had no luck either, finding a superb spot for it, but no geocache to be found.
after making my way back across/down to the pvc cache site, I headed back down, and was about a 100 yards from the Jeep when a rock gave way underfoot, causing me to lose balance, naturally requiring me to put a hand down to stop the fall... unfortunatly into a small patch of dead cholla cactus (did someone mention bringing pliers? I second that recommendation) requiring me to spend a few minutes carefully extracting a several clusters from my index fingertip since I wore fingertipless gloves for climbing. yes, it looked like a pincushion, only the pincushion was me, and it was bleeding, not to mention the pain. Luckily I carry a firstaid kit, so I took care of it and went on my way.
