No flame at all. These people make us all look bad. Verify the area is still closed and report the suckers.

Hi All:

I have a few friends that live near the Agua Fria Riverbed on Camelback. Every afternoon/evening I've driven by I've seen people down there riding.

About 6-8 weeks ago signs were put up stating "BLM LAND, Closed, no OHVs, etc." Now some bright idiots decided to paint over them in the same brown color so they could say the didn't know.

I don't want "us" to look bad, but I feel obligated to call it in and see they get fined. The concrete barriers still say no trespassing etc on them and it really burns me up seeing people are abusing a closed area. Yes it's one area, but BLM or STL Personnel will look at this area and use it against us when they decide to close an area, such as at Land Use Meetings, etc. I know I haven't been to any meetings, but what could we do to stop these people from going in there? Regardless I know some idiots will be cute and continue to go in there because we all know rules were made to be broken. I feel they should suffer the consequences.

Back in Upstate NY where I'm from there are NO OHV areas in the area I grew up in. You'd have to drive 3-5 hours in order to drive to an area to ride a quad, and longer to go Jeeping. Back home if your caught on private land or closed area and your caught, they confiscate your snowmobile or quad on the spot. Yes, I was young and dumb, I'll admit my gf and I never got caught. But it's not hard to outrun a squad car on a trail wide enough for a quad. My point is I don't want these closed areas being abused to affect the ones that still are open.

Flame Away, I have thick skin!

Jake

Jeepinduke,

Most likely, you have ruined the circuit board for the fan blower control...
the board has resistors on it which dissipate quite a bit of heat and
sometimes they burn up.
Call Darner's and ask about the board... they may try to sell you the
rheostat as well, but don't purchase it yet. Stick to the resistor board
assembly (don't know the real name of this item... and I don't have my FSM
available right now to check). Darner's will understand what the part is.

I have had my blower controller replaced twice since I have had
my '99 TJ. I am not sure that it is cheap. Both times it was a
warranty replace, once factory and once extended.

Be sure you call the BLM land office first. You could get in trouble for doing that depending on what LE officer happens to drive by at the time. Having an e-mail of approval from the BLM would save your neck. Stranger things have happened to good samaritans.

Joey:

I'd be more than willing to clean the paint off. They painted over most of the signs in brown paint (the BLM signs are Brown) and I noticed a few were painted over in Red.

I've only seen MCSO down in there once in the past 8 weeks. I know before these signs went up everytime I went by there were atleast 4-6 4x4 MCSO vehicles down there chasing people and I believe they were handing out citations.

To Whom It May Concern:

In the most recents months I've noticed your agency has posted closure signs just south of Camelback Road near the Agua Fria River Bed. There have been quite a few individuals who painted over your closure signs and I also have seen people in the closed area in the recent weeks. I would like to contact the proper law enforcement agency and report these individuals when I see them present in this closed area. Who would I contact? I have seen Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) enforcing before, but am not sure if they are the correct agency to contact.

I'm a very avid four wheeler and am active in the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club (AZVJC). We are a very active club statewide and we believe in abiding by the rules. Feel free to view the club website at: http://www.azvjc.org

My fellow jeep club members and I would like to use a citrus cleaner to remove the grafitti from these signs that your agency has posted. Would it be ok if we did this so others would know of this closure?

Feel free to contact me either at this e-mail address or via phone at: 602-421-3717.

I see a lot of dirt bikes riding around in my area and they are on private property. Attempts have been made over the last few years to keep them out. The most recent one, tractors came in and piled up big pieces of broken concrete to build a barrier and that has been by passed. There is a fence up posting no trespassing but they just keep cutting it and ride there any way. The PCSO has done little to enforce the postings in the last few years. I can drive behind a police car and look over and see 4 trucks and 15 dirt bikes an quads and the cop just drives by. In the 29 years in this area, I have seen 2 different times where some one was being spoken to by an LE officer.

It is hard to keep them out, if the police don't even enforce the laws. As far as I know, the dry washes in AZ are off limits to OHV use and yet I drive by some and see all the trails.

This is a group of people (AZVJC) the size of my senior class in high school and we are up against a whole state of OHV users. This can become a big battle for us if we decide to take it on.

Also, there are a lot of them that are not in a group, or do not participate in any of the land meetings. Me being one of them, how many times have were heard that a Newbe didn't know about BLM or STL before they found this group. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse and one can still be punished for their actions. I think that about 15-20% of OHV community are aware of the laws and what is going on. The rest just go do it and are completely oblivious to what is really going on.

Any one can drive by a shop and buy a bike for the first time and think, well I have seen others out there, why can't I. But do they jump to the net and find a group, related to their activities, and find out what they can and can not do?

It is the numerous times the law enforcement agencies catch the ones that should not be, that attracts there attention to all OHV. Organized or not.

Please, do the right things and not the wrong. Some one said that the police man that pulled you over can only put you in the category of the last OHV person they pulled over, before you.

There is a resistor package that usually goes bad (it controls the speed for
the blower fan).

If memory serves me correctly, it is located down by the passenger kick
panel (I am trying to recall the details of it from a conversation I had
some time back with a friend who replaced his. Sorry if my info is not 100%
accurate).

Rob,

If your axles are factory and have never been modified, your rear axle
ratio is 3.73:1

Can anyone recommend a webpage designer that is super easy? Something that comes with templates that you can just edit to your stuff. I downloaded the two that Cox recommends, but I can't get them figured out. They are WS FTP and Cute FTP. Thanks for the help.

Those don't sound like web page designers, but rather FTP clients.
If you have Netscape (you can still, I think, download it from the Netscape website for free), that you have Netscape Composer. It's still free, I believe.

Subject: BLM Being Abused by OHVs

Hi All:

This morning on my way to a friend's house I saw dirt bikes and also a few trucks in the river bed. I just came back through the area about 20 minutes ago and no one was down in the area.

Also, It appears as though someone started cleaning the grafitti off the signs. Did somebody from the club go out there and clean them off? I have not heard back from BLM yet.

Later

Jake
