Or you can download Google Earth for free from the internet then put the coords in on that it will point out where they exactly are and then print that page. But for about 150 bucks you can get a decent GPS from Cabelas! I got a friend that just bought one from there for around 150 bucks. :)

No. A good GPS will have the ability to load topo maps. The more memory the better. It should also be able to leave a line on the screen where you have been. The Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx Color Handheld GPS is popular with many Jeepers, but is more in the $500 range. Once again, you get what you pay for. To answer your question, yes, you can geocache without a GPS. I've done it and I know others who do with much success. Keep in mind many geocaches are NOT at the listed coords, rather, the coords lead to one spot where you then have to use other clues or coords, etc. This would require doing your plotting in the field, so be sure and bring your maps, compass, etc. with you for this type of cache.

Plotting will get you pretty close which is really all the GPS does. Once in the area (be it via maps or GPS) you have to think like a cacher..."where would I hide it..."

Have fun!

you can get entry level garmin for $80.... also, YES, they are perfet for geocaching where you just need your position. You don't need topo or talking routes or navigation. Most geochaches are not multi-caches either. This GPS is more than you need for years of successful geocaching, and it's great for offroading too so you can track your way back out of an adventure... its list price is higher than most stores have it. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=144&pID=6403 Ooh, and when i say geocaching, I'm talking about OFFICIAL geocaching, the term and web site licenced by groundspeak inc. not necessarily a local club that took the idea.

I think we are using "Geocache" more as a description of item and post it here to keep it for Jeepers and leave Jeep stuff inside. Some of Cache sites have a Jeep rating. :driving:

Hi. My wife and I have been geocaching for over 4 years. We really got involved with it when we moved here from So Cal. There are so many places to hide things in AZ, it makes it easy to get some exercise and see some of this great state. As a matter of fact, I sold my sports car after we moved here to buy my first Jeep, so we could go out farther to get more caches. But that is another story

i'll provide you with a link within the Geocaching website. it can provide you with valuable info about this unique and fun hobby.
http://www.geocaching.com/faq/

if you look on the web, you can find quite a lot of info. And, if you happen to talk to a cacher about caching, dbe prepared to spen at least an hour to hear about it, and what you will need and so on.

i'd be happy to speak with you and help you in any way I can. I'm in the havasu area if your ever up this way, let me know and my wife and I would be glad to take you out caching.
