I was giving the jeep the once over yesterday looking for things to replace tighten up and for wires that had come loose.
My winch isn’t getting any power… Not sure why.

Anyway…

I have a K&N intake kit on my little 4 cyl and I was cleaning it when I noticed there seems to be a bunch of oil around the throttle body. I pulled the tube and the inside is covered in oil and there is oil in the throttle body. Im not talking just a little bit of oil either…
WTF???

Any ideas?:willy_nilly:

What year is it? (curious)

Mine did similar. I rebuilt the motor (bored over, cam etc), put a 6 cyl throttle body on, and I had oil in/around my throttle body. I pulled the tube from the valve cover to the intake tube to make sure I didn't have too much blow by. I had no more than should be. I think the intake was sucking it out... I took the tube off and have had no further problems.

Mine is too...

It didn't do that until I allowed it to breath better with the larger throttle body. Might pull the hose and see if you get alot of blow by. If not just leave the hose off.

I give it a shot. I have had the same set up for two years but it just started this oil thing.

That would make me think blow by then. Pull the hose off and see if lots of oil blows out.

I don't know about the 4 cyl. but on the 4.0l the valve cover has two tubes coming off the top. The front tube goes to the air cleaner and is supposed to supply clean air to the oil side of the engine. The back tube has a small orifice (3/32" hole) in the elbow coming off the valve cover. The orifice meters air to the intake manifold. CCCV - Controlled Continuous Crankshaft Ventilation, takes the place of the PCV valve. Blowby and fumes are continuously pulled out of the engine and reburned. The front tube supplies makeup air. If the orfice gets plugged all of the blowby goes to the air cleaner carrying oil mist with it. A new elbow and grommet are about $12. I just changed mine. The old grommet was rock hard, had to break it into pieces to get it out. If you want to go cheap, drill a 1/8" hole in the top of the elbow, take a wire and pipecleaner and clean out the orifice which is about even with the top of the valve cover and right in the middle of the grommet. After you get it cleaned out put a screw into the hole you drilled to seal it up. Maybe pull the hose off the elbow and shop vac the elbow to get any cuttings from drilling. I believe the name of the elbow is Crankcase Ventilation Orifice.
Grommet PN 2946079 $4.50 Orifice PN 53030495 $5.10

Over oiled the K&N filter perhaps? It happens alot with the K&N's for some reason....the oil is being sucked off the gauze into the tube and throttle body. It really shouldn't be a problem unless you have a MAF sensor in the tube. If it gets gunked up it may throw a code. It can be easily cleaned with brake cleaner though.

regarding the winch, maybe its the solenoids. Someone showed me that you can sometimes jump start the winch solenoids by bridging the connectors with a screwdriver. be carefull though, of course.

Wow, I am gonna take a look at mine now. I too have a K&N and my problems did not arise until I started using it but I need to check the other stuff too. I just bought a PCV valve but have not put it on yet. Hope it helps me like it sounds like Chewy's idea can help you...
