My jeep moved under its own power tonight!!!! I still have quite a bit to do to get it on the trails and "done" but it drove itself around the block and back : ) However there were a few problems!

First... blew trans fluid all around the block so everyone knows exactly who to blame! The GF tried to yell at me to stop when she saw my leave and it started leaking. However, with no exhaust it was to late and to loud!! Turns out one of my hard lines is no good. I am going to try to pick one up tomorrow. I assume this was the cause of the bad slippage in the transmission... is that a safe assumption???

Next, I forgot to check my power steering fluid... I think it might have leaked itself dry because it took alot of tuggin' to turn those tires around! Felt like there was no power steering, and this is with the still open front end.

Finally was the brakes... I put my own rear discs on when I built my rear axle. I just used newer XJ calipers as that is what I had laying around. When I press the pedal it is VERY soft and spongy. It stops, once it gets towards the bottom of the stroke. I did bleed ALL the brakes and might try that again. Finally I was looking for a easy way to get more fluid to the rear discs. I followed this write up :

http://www.4x4wire.com/jeep/tech/brakes/xj_wjbrakes03/valve/

And I am not sure that helped me. Anyone ever go this route? I know there are better options which I will look into. Just wondering if this will get me by for temp.

Thanks a ton!

Sounds like the brakes need to be bleed more.

Did you bleed them alone or with help?

Hard to do right alone unless you have the kit that has a bottle that you bleed into and prevents air getting back in the line, and you can look at the bottle to see if still putting out air.

Also you may need to "bench bleed" the master cyliner first. Do a search here I believe this has been discusse before.

I myself was once premature in getting a project back on the road too. Finished conversion to 4 barrel manifold and carb on a 83 J-10 with the 360 V-8. Forgot to hook the vacumme line from power assist diaphram to the vacumme port. I don't remember if the port was on the valve cover or carb.

Are you using the stock TJ proportioning valve? If so call me tomorrow at the shop and I will tell you how to modify it for rear disk brakes:)

Take out the o-ring in the master cylinder. See if that helps for disk brakes. I know it did when I installed my 8.8
