Hey guys. I've got an 05 Rubicon and the steering box has started whining at me lately:banghead: I've searched on a couple different boards and have heard about the Durango box swap, unfortunately I've also heard that it's not compatible with anything newer than 02. Rather than going to the dealership and dropping $700 on a OEM box, what are the other options?

So far I have found this from PSC:

AGR has some boxes too but they all say 97-02:

What are you newer TJ guys running?

A little background....my Rubi is on 35's and has been for almost 2 years. I would like ram assist eventually but don't have that kind of coin right now. And my rig is a daily driver so I want a nice simple bolt on affair so that I don't have any down time.

Thanks in advance.

The box you have on your 03-06 is commonly reffered to as the ZF box. They are weak castings, have a huge tendency to leak and the reduction ratio is not what it should be for severe offroading. We have a "Conversion box" That replaces the ZF box with the typical 91-02 Saginaw 800 series box. It features a 3.5" power cylinder, 4.0 turns lock to lock (20:1) and comes complete with all the need hoses for the swap. I have installed about 17 of these on the late model TJ's with great sucess!! Please call me at the shop and we can talk about it a little more.....:smart: Oh BTW...the late durango box will work, it is a sag 800 box, but has a rather small power cylinder, and reduction rate. Also the taper on the sector shaft is not EXACTLY the same as the Jeep box.

Are you sure it's not the pump that's whining? That's the first thing I would check. If the box isn't leaking, I wouldn't suspect that is your problem.
