Out on the trail is not a good time to discover that the fog lights do not work. I pull the switch and nothing comes on, not even the light on the dash. Any input as to why and possible fix?

I checked to fuse and I was thinking it was the switch...just checking to see if there might be something else I was overlooking before I picked up a new switch. Thank you

both burnt bulbs,
Loose connections down at the lights.

I pulled the light bulbs, all is good and I also wiggles the ground while the lights were on, still a no go. I looks more and more like the switch.

Check the fuses...then wiring...
Did they work before..?

They worked until last night. I installed rock lights, but they are wire COMPLETELY separate. That is the only thing that has changed since the last time they worked.

How are the rock lights getting power..?

The lights are linked together, then to a toggle switch that I installed near the locker switch and then to the battery with an inline fuse.

I noticed about a month ago that the fog lights on my 01 TJ stay on sometimes. I started investigating and saw that the signal switch is going bad. I figure either I can wire them to a separate switch or replace the signal switch.
I assume this is a dealer item so I may be able to get one at the Jeep graveyard. Anyone have one laying around?

I have had my ground on my switch come loose, have you checked that yet?

Where would I find that? and if the ground has come loose would it not affect the headlights also?

A circut tester from napa ($5) has recently become my best friend. It is an alligator clip on one end and a sharp probe on the other end with a light in between. If you have one, just groung the alligator clip to any part of the vehicle (metal) and then touch the probe to to the different connections along the wire "trail" starting from the power source. If something dosen't light up, it's not getting power. So check a connection before the switch, then check the switch itself. It is a pretty good little tool that dosen't cost a whole lot.

Sorry I read you post wrong I was thinking it could of been the rock light switch. You said that is wired completely seperate. Has anything been connected to the dash for power or a ground? I would disconnect all the rock light connections and see if they come back on if so you have your problem. If you re near surprise I have a multimeter we can put on it I should be home all day.

There is nothing connected to the dash, I installed a toggle switch near the locker and OD buttons. 2 wires off the switch, one is the power straight from the battery and the other is from the lights. The lights are grounded to the body.

Do you have a tester? Check to see if there is power to the switch. I'd still bet the switch is bad. Let us know. :lurk5:

If this is the case, perhaps I do not want to wire my other lights to the fog lights switch (in another thread)
Thanks guys.

I had installed two switches in preparation for another mod. I tried that switch with the same results.

Silva,
If you have the stock fog lights that turn by pulling out the headlight switch stalk, there is a small relay in the Power Distribution Center box under the hood.
This relay is kinda weird, unlike normal relays that connect the circuit when you supply current to them, on this one, the circuit is connected when there is no power, and it disconnects when power is supplied to it. It is meant to turn off the fog lights when the high beams are turned on.
I would check to see if flicking the high beams on and off activates the relay. When one person turns the high beams on and off, you should be able to put your ear close to the relay and hear a click click... If you don't hear it, I would suspect the relay.
Pull it out and switch it with another relay from the PDC and clean the contacts just to see if that does anything.
Just my $.02, if it works, gimmie some JuJu points :)
