I had the RE front swaybar disconnects on my ZJ. The left upper mount was
grinding a nice slot into the upper trackbar mount and was very noisy. After a
pin fell out on a trip to the Pueblo Devol ruins I said the heck with it and
removed both front and rear swaybars from the Grand. No great loss! There's a
little body roll, but I got used to it. I pull a VerturCraft camp trailer with
no problems.

If you want to send an image to the group, please keep them small, under 50kb

A better way to get an image to everyone is to post it at our Photopoint
site. If you want to post a pic to our photopoint site, send an email with
the attachment to "photos@p..."
On the subject line, type exactly:
"Account: azvjc@a..."

Then email me and tell me what you uploaded, what folder it should go in, and
give me a caption to add to it. I'll move it to the right folder.

USER GROUPS AND BUSINESSES BLAST DOMBECKS
THREATS AGAINST RECREATION INDUSTRY
POCATELLO, ID -- Recreation groups and businesses are outraged at
comments
made by Mike Dombeck, chief of the US Forest Service, at a recent
conference of the
Outdoor Writers Association of America. Since radical green groups with
help from the
Clinton administration have been quite successful in shutting down timber
management on
our national forests, the Forest Service has been touting for the last
several years that recreation is one of its primary focuses.
However at this conference, Dombeck announced a dramatic change in the
direction for
the Forest Service and that watershed health will supplant all other uses
of the forest
including timber, grazing, fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, and other
recreation uses.
Mainstream recreation groups and businesses are most concerned about
the hotile
tone of Dombecks anti-access rhetoric when in his speech he issues an overt
threat to the
recreation industry that they had better watch out that they arent put out
of business like
the timber industry has been.
According to Don Amador, the western regional representative for the
Blue Ribbon
Coalition, Our members and user groups are tired of being singled out by
Dombeck and
the Clinton administration as people who need to be locked out of public
lands and our businesses bankrupted. The caustic tone of Dombecks threats
at the Outdoor Writers conference is unprofessional and discriminates
against a large segment of the American public who care for the land and
take pride in their conservation efforts.
Other recreation groups and businesses are also expressing their
concerns about
Dombecks intolerant views of land use.
Bill Dart, the spokesman for the American Motorcyclists Association of
Northern
California District 36, states, It looks like chief Dombeck wants most of
our national forests to be off-limits to the general public.
The president of Golden State Resource Management, Dennis
Hollingsworth, says, It
is unfortunate that the chief of the Forest Service would choose to go down
the path of confrontation and exclusion. Hollingsworth, a member of Quail
Unlimited, continues, Dombeck should be working with the sportsmens groups
in a fair manner. Discrimination against recreationists is unbecoming of
the Chief and his agency.
-- continued on next page --
Page 2
The president of the High Desert Multiple Use Coalition, Ron Schiller,
said, It is
discouraging that Dombeck is willing to forsake tried and true management
principles by succumbing to the demands of the environmental extremists.
He is placing our natural and wildlife resources at great risk.
Schillers group is not alone in expressing concerns about the
direction of the Forest
Service under the leadership of Dombeck. Processes such as the Sierra
Nevada Framework and other agency planning efforts including the national
forest road policy are proving to be nothing more than front-loaded efforts
by Clinton administration to payoff their campaign debts to the powerful
green lobbies.
Dick Cowardin, a former forest service employee and registered
forester, says, The
Clinton administration is wrong to blame all of our fishery problems on
roads. They should look at the explosive growth of the marine mammal
population that eats millions of salmon each year and to over fishing by
commercial fishing fleets. Closing forest roads to the American public is
wrongminded and wont benefit anyone.
Recreation businesses already heavily impacted by an avalanche of
onerous state and
federal regulations that are often more socially driven rather than based
on any science are also angry about the Forest Services attempt to close
legal trails and designated forest access routes used by their customers.
Brad Teegarden, owner of Motorsports of Placer County located in
Roseville, California,
stated, The attacks on all fronts by radical green groups and government
agencies has really impacted my business in Northern California. The
so-called mainstream media doesnt help either when they crisis monger and
scare my customers. By attacking legitimate businesses, Dombeck is clearly
overstepping his bounds.
Menlo Park businessman, Chris Carter, says, When Dombeck goes forward
with his
own personal and social agenda for our national forests, he forgets who he
works for and who pays his salary. Carter, the owner of California-based
Motion Pro, continues, His exclusionary land policies are not good for the
general public, our families, the recreation industry, or the environment.
Dombecks recent speech also more distinctly highlighted the need to
scrutinize and
regulate hunters and fishermen. This could alienate mainstream sportsmens
groups who
have on occasion sided with green groups on some land management policies.
According to Jake Hartwick, executive vice president of the Outdoor
Channel located in
Temecula, California, We are greatly concerned and shocked that Dombeck is
impugning our constituents who make up a large and important segment of the
American public. Im not sure how the millions of sportsmen in this country
are going to react when they find out that the Forest Service has no use
for them or their activities.
Amador concludes, Americans who recreate on public lands are not going
to sit by and
allow a Kings Forest to be installed by Dombeck and the Clinton
administration on our
national forest lands. These forests belong to us all and not to a green
elite who seek to
socialize our public lands.
-- 30 --
The Blue Ribbon Coalition is a national non-profit advocacy group that
champions
responsible multiple use of public lands. It represents over 550
businesses and
organizations
with 600,000 members.

Hello,
I seem to be having trouble getting a hold of anyone in the club. I am trying to get a hold of Dave Oboyle (azxj). It is very important that I talk to him about the FF 99 event coming up the 25th. Due to reservation difficulty, I need to talk to him soon. I am not sure if he is still having some trouble with his address or not. I not even sure it's not on my side of the line that's having trouble. If someone in the club could e-mail me a test letter to see if my e-mail is working I would appreciate it. I know that my carrier has been having trouble since he got hit by lightening.

Also, the old address az_vjc@m... has been changed to

Subject: Tires for the club members...
Hello all! I have had a good response to the post about getting a good
discount on new (and used) tires and wheels for members of the AZ_VJC. I
have replied to each person individually, but thgouth I would let the whole
group know that I am finally taking a couple of days off - thanks Doug :)
Anyways, I will have the quotes e-mailed to you all individually on monday
evening.
Also, we can get a discount on wheel/rims also. To get the quotes, I just
need the part number from the wheel, and the size.
I hope everyone has a good weekend, and talk to you all on monday!
Happy jeeping (especially in this weather!)

If you want to send an image to the group, please keep them small, under 50kb
or so. Some mailers don't handle large files well.
A better way to get an image to everyone is to post it at our Photopoint
site. If you want to post a pic to our photopoint site, send an email with
the attachment to "photos@p..."
On the subject line, type exactly:
"Account: azvjc@a..."
without the quotes.

Hello,
I seem to be having trouble getting a hold of anyone in the club.

I want to get 2 33x10.50r15s or 33x12.50r15s, preferably used. And 2 15x8
steel wagon wheels with 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern (also used if possible). The
tires don't have to be in really good shape, but need to be street-able and be
able to hold air for at least a few hours at a time. I will be using them for

Also, the old address az_vjc@m... has been changed to
az_vjc@egroups.com. Both work, but I recommend using the egroups version.
