I got my first real mountain bike couple of days ago. It's a 2006 Haro V4. Got it used for a good deal. I haven't ridden a bike on a regular basis since I was in jr high, and those were from Wal-Mart. I am going to use this one to commute around ASU and to start learning how to ride trails. Been out and around the last couple of days and quickly realized I will need to build up some endurance before I start running trails. I don't know anything about bikes, so there is a lot to learn. I was given a new rear tire for the bike that I need to put on, but I can handle that. The wheels are bent, but I think I may take it back to the bike shop I got it from and have them straighten them (the guy that sold it to me and cleaned it up said he would help me out with anything that goes wrong the first couple of months). I also need to learn how to maintain and adjust it. So far I am really enjoying it and look forward to getting out on some trails with it.
Specs:
27 speed
4" or 4.5" of travel up front
disk brakes

Take the reflectors off so they don't laugh at you on the "Desert Classic."(South Mountain trail) :D Nice, better get a good lock if you are locking that up down by ASU! Remember to take the front wheel off and lock it and the frame to the rack/post...

Thanks, It matches my shoes so I was going to leave it.
Once I get a camelback, I am going to remove it and strap a pump there. But right now, I can live with the purple holder because I like water.

"gt"?
I am going to pick one up soon, but much cheaper at Big 5 than at the bike shop.

I don't mean to be a dick... thats a decent bike, but where does it qualify as a "real bike?"

Thanks! I have no idea where to go, so I would love to follow along. Need to get some more riding time to get some endurance, but would like to go out soon.

hmm...
scandium frame for one
CF bars, seat post
XTR F/D and R/D and shifters
Sunrims XC composite wheels tubeless with Crossmark Maxxis
the fox shocks are probably the worst part about the bike... hehe
bike weight as it sits is just over 21lbs

I'll take you out to McDowell Mountain since you're a beginner. It's like a roller coaster up and down but a good way to up your endurance and experience.

Go over to MTBR.com forums, arizona region. They post "C" level rides almost once a week. FYI "C" level means beginner, "B" is intermediate, and "A" is advanced.
Also, the bike looks kind of small? What size is it? How tall are you? Inseam length? A poorly fitted bike will be very uncomfortable to ride, resulting in you riding less. I suggest you take it back to the shop you bought it at and get fitted. You may have to buy a new stem, but not much else. If the shop gives you a funny look, or insists the bike is fine. LEAVE. yeah well...
I had realized it was easier to buy lighter bike parts than to work and actually lose my jell-o butt.
