** PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE TO 0800 MEET/0830 DEPARTURE

Please take down my cell # for any q's... six two three three four one six five two seven

What: We are going to run out by Tip Top and explore what is beyond it, possibly the town of Packer...? The road is pretty simple with some obsitcales if you want there to be, but I run it with a stock TJ.

When: We will meet at the Anthem Safeway at 0800 to pick up last minute snacks/drinks/etc. and depart at 0830.

Where: just off Table Mesa road, the road takes us to Tip Top Mine, with a lot of the buildings still intact (partially) and some open mines, etc. Past it, who knows.

Info: I plan on brining a box lunch with me and we will probably have a little lunch stop somewhere in Tip Top. I also plan on brining my guns to get off a few rounds at Table Mesa shooting area on the way up.

Anyone who wants to join up, we would love to see you. :sombrero:

I'm leading a small group to Packer as well, but we should be a couple hours ahead of you. Our goal is the Shamrock Tank, and we don't expect to get back to Packer, 'till dark.

Still, nice to know someone else will be in the area. Will you be on channel 4?

never even plan a wheeling trip (Regardless of how stock it should be) when you have a set schedule and time to return by. It's a law somewhere I'm pretty sure. Well, besides murphy's law ;)

I've been out there several times. It is a long, rough trip w/ lots to see along the way. I'd suggest leaving as early as possible (7 or 8am latest) to avoid the early nights this time of year, especially if you are going to Packer, Milk Ranch, etc...

That is a great area.

Duality
11-19-2007, 03:00 PM
yeah... not getting up that early on what is basically a saturday for me. I do want to get back by dark though.

Digger

I have CB, sorry , but I don't have a second CB to lend you. I'm packing for the long haul.
I aint Sk'eered of the dark.

Dual, I had a guest stop by today, I am glad to say, he is a detector and has researched a lot of what I have been hunting for, he has equipment that will go 20 feet down., I excepted his offer to join a planned adventure next month "oh yeah"
ok, about this "wacky" adventure, Dual, I have heard some colorful description of my trail-treks by greenhorns and such, but nothing even close to "wacky" what you got up your sleeve? guess you'll be taking the reighns on that area. Your not going to be throwing wiskey down the back of your throat while wheelin firearms are ya??? know any of the other that will be running? I might be hauling turkey left overs, depends on how many pop in turkey day to feast. if ya want buzz me thanksgiving evening or stop by and I'll let you know if you need to bring something to eat, maybe I should ask if you even like turkey,

I was just curious....when you guys head up to Tip Top do you take the route that crosses right by gillette and goes over a hill right by that old ? Or do you drive to the north end of lake pleasant and work your way up cottonwood gulch (i think thats what its called). Oh, and i wouldnt expect to find many buildings up there. All i found were a few foundations and a large vertical shaft, but im not totally sure that was tip top. Have fun!

Duality
11-19-2007, 07:56 PM
we will be passing by gillett. And Tip Top has about 5 intact buildings. Some of them are well hidden. And yeah, that mine shaft is deeeeeeeeeeeep.

and nanc, i plan on throwing back whiskey while trying to jump a flaming bush over the mine shaft and shooting guns in the air.

Digger

Where is tip top? I am still new to 4 wheeling and am not sure of many places yet. It has been said this is a pretty easy run, curious ? how long of a run is it, I have a ZJ with the 5.2L and I am still working on my custom rear tire / gas can holder rack, I would prefer not to run out, in the middle of no where.

Thanks

Tim

Tip Top is only about 7 miles off the freeway... So if you fill up in north Phoenix, you're good to go. Trail is probably rated as a 2.5, but there are many tougher side roads to take, once you get out there a ways.

Looking forward to the trip...

Digger
11-21-2007, 07:15 PM
So, Joe, your saying your not going to camp? Let me know, it will make a difference in what I pack in my Jeep. Lack of gear won't be an issue, if ya really want to camp. My tent sleeps 5, and dogs think your cool, so your guarenteed not be eaten by my pack of "Dreaded Desert Dingo Dogs" or you can sleep in the back of my XJ.

Nice Day ! Just got back from a hike by Bumble Bee, dogs are done for the day!
Tent, not a problem, I have an extra sleeping bag, air mattress, what ever else is needed.
The traffic before Amthan Way was at a snail pace. Coming back to Phx, 17 was wide open, average speed was 85 all the way to the 10.

Clay
11-22-2007, 06:04 PM
I will be bringing my seventeen year old daughter. So it looks like we are meeting at eight. I will be there at seven thirty. We going to air down tires in Anthem or on the trail? Stupid question I know, but this is my second adventure and I didn't air down at Broken Arrow a couple weeks back with Bill.

Anybody going on Saturday to Sedona? I will be meeting Dusty on Cliffhanger and then Bill for the evening ride at Broken Arrow. 18 Jeeps that evening.

I just have the CB. The antena and cable I have needs to have a new cable put on it as the one that is on there got pinched by the lift gate. I will bring the CB.

this one is flexible :whistling:

Ok... I went through the car wash and forgot the antenna was on the
jeep and ... well ... the antenna is no good... that is the 2nd one I have
broken... 1st one I pulling into the garage with it on :banghead:

The guy at Apollo Communications is very nice and helpful, I would
recommend him to anyone who needs a new CB or antenna. He will
even tune it for $10 which is not that bad...

Glad you guys had a nice time... it was nice meeting you and your

Met some more good people from AZ VJC on this run. Will post up some pics soon. I really liked this run, trails of interest for me. Good people, good weather, well organized, Roxs running as tail-gunner wasn't about to let anyone stray from the safety of the group. :) Had a new to the "wheeling experience" member on this run, seeing his abilities, wouldn't have know this, unless he had mentioned it to me at start of run. :)
Oh, Dual, I didn't realize you had an issue with so many, how did you say it, on your .. ? Next run, eat my dust !! :) hehehe
Good seeing you again Dual!!!
