Charlie and I made it up on Thursday and ran Moab Rim and Fins and Things on Friday. Weather is great, Moab is Moab and the rest of the crew showed up tonight. :em3600: All my pic's will be uploaded to my Picassa account, but here's a few to get the thread started.

Weird thing about Moab Rim is that it's easier on the way down, than the way up, not many trails like that............

Well 5 of us ran Pritchett today. Lance, Jonathan, Charlie, JD and I. This was probably the hardest trail by a factor of 2 that I've ran. This trail has some "serious consequences" if you get off line and roll. Most of the obstacles were off camber hill climbs of 30-50 feet or more.

First time on the trail for all of us, years of looking at pic's and watching video were no match for actually getting on the trail. 5 Jeeps in, 5 Jeeps out, we sent Lance first and he did a great job finding the right lines, Thanks Lance. No carnage whatsover,,,,,,,,,,

There is no way pic's will do it justice and like most of the drivers today I was more concerned with getting over the next spot than taking pic's. I might post some later, but for now, I'm just lucky to be alive :)

The pic's I got are here,

Wayne, it's kind of hard to tell from that pic, but what line were you taking ? We all ran that ledge straight on, passenger tire about where you were standing, that is a nasty ledge for sure and we didn't have anyone with us who knew the trail so we improvised............but it all worked out. It appears there were more than one line through here, but once the first Jeep made it through (another Lance plug) we all stuck with what worked.

Personally, I really like the next one and dubbed it "Champaign
Hill"

We were pretty much in the same boat, no one remembered what line they had taken before, so we tried several before finding one further to the left. TC tried the one you described and was denied. If I had been on the right and pulled cable from there, it would have been straight to the anchor. Much better results I'm sure. My problem wasn't at the bottom, it was about thirty feet higher on the last ledge before turning right. Just didn't have the momentum to get up the last ledge. I was pretty fried by the time we got to your "Champagne hill", but if I remember right, they winched me up that one too. :o

The first year we did Pritchertt up there on the line to the right, (you can see it in the picture), Walt, (Jeepnut), busted his front spring, but we didn't find it until after lunch.:)

How did you guys do on Rocker Knocker?

Wayco's vid makes it hard not to do good on Rocker Knocker anymore.:whistling:

11-20-2007, 07:05 AM
You guys need to do Rusty Nail! We haven't done that one yet. If you can't find any info on it look up and call Dan Mick. He opened a lot of those trails up there and is a neat guy. BTW, he is a friend of Walker Evans.:10900: (Inside joke)

RokNRich

Rocker Knocker owned us, though JD did make it through just about perfectly. Lance tried quite a few times and ended up winching, Charlie tried a couple of times and then went around with me and Jonathan. The ledge was covered with silt, it was getting late, and I was worried about losing my purse............:)

azcharlie

Yes he was using his winch line as a limiting strap or suck down winch. I really had a awesome time in Moab. Pritchett is by far the hardest trail I've ever ran. Every obsticle kept getting harder and harder. Even Hell's gate as your looking up and thinking how are we going to get up that. Tom and Lance you guys rock!! Lance was the leader and he had to find the line for all of us and did a great job spotting. Tom did a great job spotting everyone through hells gate. I can't wait for next time!

Hey Rich, thanks for taking all the photo's. My daughter dropped my camera last week and broke it. So it was nice to see some of the stuff I did.

I had a great time this weekend. I wish I could have stayed longer. This was a super group to wheel with. I couldn't have imagined a better group. Plus, now that I'm living in Utah, it's nice to be able to stay in touch with the VJC. I'm already looking forward to the next group coming up.

I got home around 3. I had a blast and will get some pics up later. No one made it up escalator with out taking a line. Lance, JD, and Josh put on great shows getting really twisted (surprise... Lance laid it over and drove it back upright). I'll look for some shots of Area BFE; it was my first time there and we ran Green Day.

Thanks to everyone there for the good times.

Slight hijack, no jeep pics, close your eyes if you must......

So Tuesday was "family day", took the girls and the tow rig out to Arches NP, of course in the process I spot a dirt road and on the map it shows it doing a loop, from the end of the park almost back to the beginning, well who would pass up the chance to do a loop instead of an in and back ?

After about 10 miles we come up to a hill, the trail goes over the hill and back down on the other side...........

Up

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n275/roknrich/DSC00518.jpg

And over......

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n275/roknrich/DSC00524.jpg

No problemo..........
But, of course, the road is closed (barricaded) just on the other side, so now it's getting dark and I get to run it backwards.........:banghead:

Got back yesterday afternoon. That was an awesome trip. Like everyone else said you couldn't ask for a better group to wheel with. A special thanks goes out to Lance for instigating this run & leading much of it. He found all the fun lines. Also thanks to Rich for getting the great rates at the Bighorn.
The first 4 days the weather was great, but Wednesday was cold & we woke up to 17 degrees Thursday. It was hard to leave there but the cold made it easier.
I came home to a new computer without my Kodak easyshare, but I'll try and post a few pics of Greenday & Behind the Rocks since some were already posted of the other trails.

http://picasaweb.google.com/tommyhatch/Moab2007

I will post some here after I go through them.

Had a great time!

I lost one of my memory cards with photos from PSM/GS/GBR and the first half of Hells Revenge.

I want to thank all the guys and gals who went to Moab with me. It was a great group to wheel with, especially since I have wheeled with most of them before a couple of times. The weather was great for the first couple of days, and then it got down to normal temps up there, which is cold for us. We ran Poison Spider Mesa/Golden Spike/Gold Bar Rim on Sat., Pritchett Canyon on Sun., Hells Revenge on Mon., Area BFE-Green Day and Minor Threat on Tues., Behind the Rocks on Wed., and an easy trail-Fins-N-Things on Thurs(Paige drove) on Thurs. Thursday was the day of catastrophy for my Jeep, as the front track bar bracket ripped completely off the frame. A cumulative effect of the past 2 years finally took it's toll. At least I get to blame "Hardcore Chic" for breaking it. I will just post some highlight pics, as we got over 950 pics total. Huge thanks to JD and Clara for loaning us a camera until we could get a new one(Regina took a header in the dirt on Pritchett) And also to Tom for helping spot some of the areas I had never done. And Johnathan and Charlie for bringing their daughters to keep Paige from asking if she could drive everyday. And Rich, for keeping his purse in the Jeep, so he didn't spill his makeup bag. Here are some pics.....

I had an opportunity to watch Charles Wells (book writer) drive Escalator in a near stock Wrangler on BFG AT's with Dan Mick (Mayor of slickrock) as his guide. The trick is to put the RR high on the wall and pinch it there and don't let it fall into the hole. You will grab some air, but not go over. I've got some photos of his climb if anyone would like to see them.

John, Thanks for posting those pictures.

I would love to see a TJ climb Escalator. Noone made it in our group this year and when I tried it last year I couldn't get it. We couldn't get anyone's tire up on the wall to stay.

I got my XJ up with a lot of spotting help and directions, and a loose winch cable. I was scared to death of flipping over backwards. It was my first major trip wheeling the jeep and I was a nooobeeee.(still am). What I recall Mick saying was that the RR had to be high on the wall and pinched there with the LR down low to pinch it.

Mick spent a lot of time getting Wells lined up before he started out of that hole. Getting lined up is the key. He actually had Wells drop his rear tires off the ledge slightly to get it lined up right.

Rich- thanks.

Very nice video. He was trying to get the right line. Someone said "you need to get the back tire over". Tha'ts the trick. The line up has to start before cresting the first fall. -disclaimer- I'm not a pro. I'm repeating what Mick did and said for Wells and Wells crawled it.
