Just got home Monday from the Parker Desert Splash. Dan (The Frisco Kid) a HCR from Payson and myself drove over Thur and arrived before three PM. I was amazed at how many rigs were already there. But the campground is very large and we had no trouble finding a good spot dry camping almost under the trees away from a lot of the dust.
Others that we would run with came in late Thur night and late Friday night. We were all grouped together. George & Kathy, Kerry & Joanne, and Alex & Richard in the two yotas.
The event was huge with well over 200 entries, mostly jeeps and buggies. We checked in, got goodies and t-shirts, bought raffle tickets, went for inspection and were tagged to run any trail. We then signed up for a trail on Friday, Longos Curse on the CA side for a warm-up. I think it was rated a hard three. It was mostly long, dusty and only one real obstacle which was washed out and none of us could run it. We got back late and by the time we made up our minds what to run on Sat all the first runs were full and we had to sign up for the second run leaving at around 9:30. That is a definite no-no, with 25 to 30 jeeps leaving at 7:30 and our group so big we split up, our 15 dropped down into True Grit and were on the first group in a matter of minutes and they were stalled. We turned around to hit another trail and six of us split off to hit Deliverance since one of our group was on run two there. Well we caught up to run two and then all caught up to run one and were stalled for 1 1/2 hours getting through the squeeze. But that was our only real big delay the whole weekend and the other runs went OK with just a few small delays for repairs. After Deliverance we hit True Grit again. It is a great trail, short, sweet and to the point, very technical with no rest. Dan bent a tie rod on his CJ and I broke my RK steering bracket again. After bending the tie rod back as straight as they could get it, Dan and I pulled out just before the end and headed back to camp to make repairs. Well some of us wanted to see the Desert Bar first.
We had the repairs done by dark and headed to dinner and the raffle. It was a long line for dinner but worth it. The raffle had over $5000 worth of stuff, the pre-registration raffle had over $700 cash and the 50/50 had over $1000 cash. Alex won the 60” Hi-Lift, and Kerry won a 48” Hi-Lift and a syn. winch line and fairlead. The raffle took until 10PM, Dan and I won nothing.
Sunday we ran Rio Lobo and Presidents Choice. Rio Lobo was the hardest trail I have done so far and was my favorite of the trip, PC was also great and I didn’t make the Launching Pad obstacle as my front end unloaded and front wheels came up about 10 inches. They put a strap on me and a few guys pulled my front down with it by hand and I went right up. It may be time for a suck down.
Parker 4 Wheelers did a fantastic job for such a large event and for just a 3 ½ hour drive I plan to make this event next year only probably a day earlier to get a spot right on the river. They also had a couple vans and a car for the buggies to drive over on Friday evening. I only got to see part of it and got no pics but it was amazing to watch those buggies power over the vans. One was driven by an 11 yr old and one guy went over in reverse. These guys are crazy.
OK now for a few pics of the trails.
Camp, the patio worked great and several people with campers came over to check it out. There was also much interest in my MonkeyBars doors.

Presidents Choice was a great trail and my camera died here so I have no pics of my attempt or anyone's on the Launching Pad. The Pad is at least twice as long as the Gatekeeper at the Cracks and steeper. I already have a plan for next time.
God willing I will be there next year. I hope more of our club will go next year.

Kerry is a great finesse driver and they are both wonderful people to be around. It's easy to learn a lot wheeling with them.
And Joan is one of the most unassuming people you will ever meet. It was a privilege to wheel with them.

How do you find out about events like these?
I just happened to see it mentioned here or one of the Yahoo boards and Dan said he was going so I asked for the entry form. I guess once you have been then they send you an entry every year because when I look for it on the Internet I never find it. They don't even have a website with the entry posted, yet it's growing every year. I think well over 200 entries this year.
I think it is the second weekend in Nov. every year.
