Are there any major differences between the TJ years? I've got a 99, and was wondering if I could grab, say, a 96,97, or 00.
I just can't seem to find one 99 specific.

Factory service manuals are used for EXACT info. There are alot of little differences thay you may be needing that will be year and model specific, sometimes even down to the VIN #. I do know for sure that the wire color codes are seperate between 97-98, 99-01, 02, and 03-05, 06 is all in its own boat.... But there are other differences also, such as PCM pin-outs and plug pin-outs and sometimes even voltages. I would just go to the dealer and pick up a manual for a 99.

Joe,

Is there a web site that you can get online service manuals for Jeeps?

Todd, I am not really sure, I bet you could get them on E-bay if you look long enough. I have all of the factory paper manuals for the TJ's EXCEPY the body and trans for the 06. I just got the 07-08 JK manuals but they are on CD.

Now I remember .......

Call Chrysler Motor Publications .......

1-800-890-4038 .......

You should be able to order any Chrysler FSM for
any year, for any make and model .......

Just for information .. 2001 TJ publication number is:

81-370-1048CD

They are not cheap, but I have used mine many
times .... and it was worth it to me ....

Good luck,

Mike

Thanks guys, I've already checked ebay, but nothing yet. I'd rather have an actual book over pdf or cd, so I'll just order one.

If you find a 96 factory service manual for a Wrangler keep it... it's a rare book! :p

Has AZVJC ever entertained the idea of having a "library" of sorts of digital Jeep manuals stored on the server which would be a locked "sponsor only" accessible?

I personally own the CDROM for the 03 TJ in .pdf format (purchased off of EBAY) and would be happy to contribute it towards the cause... if of course it doesn't violate any copyright laws.

If no copyright laws would be broken and such a library for AZVJC sponsored members existed, I am sure all Jeep years and makes would eventually be covered by member's contributions. Kind of like Public Domain.

So, is something like this possible or has anyone looked into it? I'm sure it would be extremely useful for folks, especially as a reference to diagrams/parts and such.

I think there are concerns about copyright?

I know on Jeeps Unlimited Cherokee forum they have been known to flip out if you even talk about the PDF versions of the FSMs.

Just so I know.... are the manuals that are listed on books4cars.com that say "Shop Service Repair Manual by Jeep" about the most detailed ones out there? Are these the ones that most auto shops will order and carry to work on jeeps? Ie... much better than a Chilton/Haynes manual?

I guess my confusion comes in with the two manuals... "Jeep Parts Manual for Wrangler" that runs $130, and the "Shop Service Repair Manual by Jeep" that goes for $80. If I need to do major engine/drive-train/electrical work on a project jeep which one would be the best overall manual?

thanks,
