Hunter

Its the 9th Annual AZVJC BBQ hosted at Hunter's

:::RAIN UPDATE::: I am watching the weather and there is a decent chance it might rain on Saturday. At this point, it is nothing definite as the weather forcast has changed a few times all ready, and well, it is Arizona. I am going to hold to the schedule, rain or shine, and hope for the best. Keep an eye on the weather and maybe keep those blue tarps and pop up shades handy.

Ok everyone here is the News and Notes for the BBQ

For starters, here's the how-to rules for the BBQ, for all of you rookies coming for your first time; or for those of you, cant remember the last one ..

This will be the main thread for the BBQ. If there are changes, they will be added here in this post. Watch the "update" date to see if anything has been added. Notes will be added. ( Such as more tables or if I need more BBQ grills)

1) First Rule,
And most important. Food. Everyone brings a little. Everyone will have alot. Bring a side dish, bring a few bottles of ketchup, plates, drinks what ever. If you can, post what you are bring here so some folks can get an idea what you are bringing. One thing I ask.... If you buy meat, try and buy matching buns, helps cut down on being too lopsided. Bring a cooler with ice and have a freind bring sodas or water. You get the idea.

For those of you thinking, "I should tell him to make a list", (it happens every year), it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep track of what everyone is bringing. I have 100 poeple signed up. I will have 150 show up. I go with the rule, "average in the chaos".

2) The W's of the BBQ

Where: Hunter Offroad Parking lot 625 S Smith Suite 1 Tempe Az 85281

When 3:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 1st. It will kick-off at 3 O'clock Parking lot will be full by 3:02. If you want to get in the parking lot and have a good spot lot, come early. And another thing...after all these years I have given up .. "Rock Rat Rule" will be in effect. If you want to come early for more BBQ time, come early. Parking lot will be open by 12:00

Why: Goes back to the roots of the very first one... Allows everyone a chance to meet other Jeeper's and swap ideas, check out other rides and get ideas, make freinds and have a good time. Most fun you will have with your 4x4 on pavement. There are a lot of new faces this year and the club needs a big get together. Plus, it gives you a chance to meet he person you have ben flaming back and forth. And maybe, just maybe we can figure out all the Alter Ego's

3) RTI Ramp,
It will be good times as usualy on the Ramp. Show everyone what you got. See if you improved over last year. Or just have fun and flex out for the camera. Lot's of pictures and probaly some tire climbing. But, with the general nonsense of peopel drving up on wheels, itas fun, but easy to get carried away. A few rules to remember:

No Rolling Off The Ramp on purpose. No climbing the buildings, tempting as it maybe be... And no matter how good of an idea it may seem at the time, no climbing walls. And while were at it, no 4 popper drag races either.

4) Raffle
Ah, fast becoming one of the best, well known raffles out there.... Well, atleast in my mind. But where else can you get tire deflators, a JP Cooler, and a Christie's Coffee Thermos all in the same raffle?

Welcome our first Sponsers to help out.

Absolute Offroad
4Wheeler's Supply
JP Cooler
Daystar

The Raffle Overview. 1 Dollar a Ticket. 12 for 10 bucks.
*If you wear a Hunter Offroad T-shirt, you also get a free raffle ticket.
*If you deck out your ride in Christmans decoartion, you will also get free tickt for that.
*All profits go to help pay for the BBQ (uh, the bathrooms) and whatever is left over goes to Charity. Last year I donated to St. Mary's Food Bank. I handed them a check for 320.00 dollars! Great Job.

Also, if you want to bring can fodo items, I will make sure they get there. I have done that in the past

5) Drinking a few at the BBQ?].
I have NEVER had a problem with folks having some cold ones in all the years I have been doing this, but I have bring it up. Only thing I ask, remember, it is a family event, so take care and mind your self. It is private property so you can drink. So, if you like to bring some cold ones and talk shop with your buddies, go ahead and play nice and be prepared to share with the host. And just like the year's before.. dont ask what's mixed with my Coke.

6) Selling stuff Swap meet ideas.
Usually folks will want to bring stuff and try and sell or swap stuff. I have no problem.. Thats what this is all about. Got some old shocks or Jeep parts, bring and put them on display. Old winch you wanna sell? Only rule, dont bring so much stuff, that is takes up room in the parking lot for people to park. If you have something bigger, leave it on the street. I want to save room for folks to setup their chairs, and allow as much room for people to park as possible in the lot.

7) Kitchen Help
I need BBQ's... always do. More the better. From the past, 5 normal size grills can cook all we need im the time to feed everyone. Be a hero and bring a grill. We are always looking for volunteers to help. At this point I have nadda. Also, anyone want to run the kitchen area? I have found it does help to have alittle direction.

*Stay tuned to this as I will update it with who is bringing what.

Toys For Tots.

We have become pretty famous for this over the years. Mike, one of our members and a Marine, leads the charge for the Toy Drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and make a kid smile somewhere. Each year we have been getting bigger and Bigger. Lots set a new record this year!

Other Notes....
Also if anyone wants to donate to the raffle, Please contact me. In year's past we have had gift certificates for a restaurant other club members bought, to a free therapy massage by a another club member's private business, gift cards, or even the classic re-gift.
Email: hunteroffroad@aol.com 480-557-7577

Do not to forget too bring Tables and chairs to sit on too for you and for others. Also, I will need BIG tables for Kitchen Area. Contact me if you have some. Will need at least 4 to 5 3x8 tables.

I think that about covers it, but I know I probably forgot something. Be in touch with everyone. Take care. Stay tuned for updates........Also, dont be afraid to check out here. Info and updates will be posted here too.

In short, this is the Mother of all Meet And Greets. They all started with this one back in 2001. At the time, club never had a big meet, so I thought it would be a good idea. Club hasnt been the same since. Ha ha ha!

I'm no good with the alcohol; there is no middle ground for me... If I'm boozin, I'm BOOZIN!!! So I'll probably pass this year so the families can enjoy the get together without some crazed hillbilly scarring the kids...

So, if you weren't sure if you were going to come this year based on my antics last year; please don't stay home... I'll stear clear so you all can have a good time.

I guess flexy will have to race himself this year.

There is not much of a list, or way to keep it. This thread is about the closest thing to a "guideline". I woudl have people sign up, but most folks arent part of the old AZVJC system with a sign up list. Going to kinda wing it this year. I will still set up the list tonight.

On behalf of a friend of mine who does Toys for Tots every year at Hunters; and who this year is also introducing something we can all do for our troops in Iraq:

Again this year, for the 4th year in a row, I will be doing the Toys for Tots collecting for the USMC Toys for Tots program. We have filled up my Grand Cherokee every year with as many as 150 gifts. I think the record was Joe Daro from Absolute Off-Road who gave I think 15 or 20 toys at one time after a shopping spree in which he had no clue he told me at Toys R Us. And one of the most generous ones was last year when someone gave two new bikes, one for a boy and one for a girl (sorry I forgot your name).

So again I ask each of you to think of the kids who are less fortunate and donate a toy for Tots again this Year. We are looking for a NEW, unwrapped and unopened toy for a boy or girl. You decide which, how many and how much to pay.

Bring it to the BBQ or if you cannot make it to the BBQ, please drop it off to John at the shop during regular business hours, but don't do like me and spend an hour jawing with him cause John needs to make a living!

NOW Part #2 - Operation Stocking Stuffer

This newer program is for the troops deployed in war zones and I will be collecting for them too!

The top 10 donations needed are:

1. Beef Jerky and Corn nuts to savor during long and boring watches
2. Protein Bars, pre-packaged tuna or chicken salad with crackers for quick snacks and energy
3. Slinkies, nerf balls, frisbees to play with during downtime
4. Olive-green or black T-shirts (L/XL?) and long boot socks because laundry is hard to do and seldom available
5. Chapstick/lip balm for dry lips
6. Baby wipes for obvious hygiene reasons
7. Chemical hand and foot warmers for those cold nights in the desert
8. Disposable cameras to document their experiences -or- if you are so
inclined digital cameras, especially that old one that still works that you just bought a new one to replace.
9. Q-tips are very useful especially for cleaning weapons.
and lastly:
LETTERS and CARDS of Encouragement along with maybe those old issues of 4x4 magazines that you no longer read !

I really appreciate your support of BOTH of these programs and see you at the BBQ.

Mike

Mike or George or Diane,

I have a whole printer paper box or boxes filled with old mags. Was trying to do this same sort of thing a few months ago, but ended up getting stymied by the army. Not their fault it's just hard for an indivdual to get these things sent over with no one on the other end. I'll have them at the BBQ for you.

I will be there, with my wife and a buddy from Oregon.

We are actually going to the ASU vs. UofA game which starts at 6:00 PM on that same day, so we can use the BBQ as a bit of a tailgate party.

Hunter - everyone -

I'm really sorry, but I cannot make it....Ben's not too happy he has to take care of me instead of going with me to this...and has asked me to sleep on the couch or the guest room for a couple days (which I'll do begrudgingly):

I've gotten myself so stressed over my Mom's cancer that I'm suffering from migranes and also have gotten a viral infection. Not allowed to be near mom because of it, not allowed to go to work this weekend (I really needed to because I need my gear together for school in Jan), not allowed to go to Hunter's.....only allowed to lay in bed and take codine medication......

You know, I'll have ben stop by with them really quick on the way home from drill - he won't be able to stay long, but maybe that will make up for me being an invalid this weekend.

I will NOT be sending pies.....mmmmmmm virally contaminated pies :dizzy2: - nah doesn't sound good at all. Hunter - I'll drop one off just for you when I get better.

Hi all. I have a bunch of tables and chairs that I was going to bring to help out but my Jeep is still getting the 8.8 installed and I have no way to pull my trailer. If there is anyone out there who can pull a trailer or has a truck please call me so we can get these over to Hunters. I live on Baseline and Stapley so its not far from Tempe. Hope we can make this work, Thanks Josh 480-593-3245

Dang, I wanted to come! But, I started to hear a whining noise coming from my Jeep a couple of weeks ago. Friend #1 checked it out and didn't see anything. Thursday, I hear a ping like something flew up from the road and hit the undercarriage. Then it's like I'm driving around in pudding. All over the road and dipping to the right rear when I take off. I am really concerned now. Cannot get my reliable mechanic until Sat aft. Bummer! It could have been bad....a big important bolt had backed out of my right rear axle and left!!!! I guess the only thing holding it in was the C-clip! It was sure rolling around! Boy, am I and others on the road around me lucky!!! I've never heard of that before in 20 years of Jeeps! I guess it's another Jeep Thing! For sure next year!!! And now that I know where to look, I'll be inspecting it weekly!

Joe was gonna blow the whistle on me for disconnecting my anti-rock, I didn't know that low tire pressure would help. Mine were at 25 lbs. This is the second time Hyjak has been on a ramp, the first was at 4 Wheelers right after the new tube fenders. I think I measured straight up from the ground to the bottom of the tire, shows how much I know about ramping....
