Sedona Rick and I are doing a run to Martin Canyon aka "SMILEY ROCK"
MARTIN CANYON IS PART OF THE GREAT WESTERN TRAIL. TO ME IT IS THE BEST PART OF THE "GWT" IN AZ. 3.0 to 3.5. A ROCKY RIVER BED.
MEET 10:00 am IN JEROME.
TAKE ORCHARD DRAW RD. NEXT TO FIRE STATION. 1/4 MILE UP ON LEFT.
ABOUT 3-4 hrs
Come on along. It's an amazing trail!
Post up here so we can get a head count.

That's the plan. We'll probably grab a bite when we get back to Sedona before the full-moon Broken Arrow run.

Hey! I've been itching to run Smiley Rock for a while now. :) It is one of my favorite trails! So sign me up!
I may also join the moonlight Broken Arrow run, too, but I will make a gametime decision on that one.

I'm not positive if I will be able to make this run or not yet. I guess I have to ask the newb question..."will my rig make it?" '99 XJ, 4.5" RE lift, 32'' bfg a/t's.

You will be fine. I have spotted an XJ on a 3" lift and 30s through there on more than one occasion. You just have to choose your line carefully and go slow. :)

Yep, I'm looking forward to it! :D And, this gives me a hard deadline to make sure I get the Black Bear video finished for you. :juggle:
In the meantime, here's the only decent pic I got of your rig. :dunce:

Hmmm... and while I'm digging through pics, here's a couple more, jsut for nostalgia's sake, and to derail your thread. :devilish:

Bridal Veil Falls...one of the highest waterfalls in Colorado, and one of my favorite spots on the planet!:qqb003:
Bill, I will be in Jerome at ten. Not sure you all want me and my stock jeep tagging along, but I will see what you all say in the morning. I did get a CB and will keep it on channel 4. Not to worry. If there is too much laughter when I drive up, I will assume my vehicle will not make it and find something to do till broken arrow later that evening.

That would be me Tirith is referring to. I have been there twice, and each time it rained and the trail became somewhat more difficult as my street tires kept sliding of the rocks I was trying to tip-toe across.
I am planing to meet up with everyone at the BA trailhead around dusk. Alas, I cannot get away early enough for Smiley Rock.
I plan to scope out either Diamondback or Cliffhanger just for somthing different in the early afternoon.

We will be there.
Any of you Sedona people have trail suggestions for us on Friday.
I grew up jeepin all over AZ and never in the Sedona area. The family is really looking forward to this.
I just dropped my CJ5 with Ademester to install 4.88 and lockers. Can't wait to try them out.

Sedona Rick will not be able to make this run, so I will be leading the trip now. Same time, same rendezvous. :) I will get a final headcount on Friday night, just so we know how to expect.

We will be staying at the Super 8 in Sedona. How long will it take to get to Jerome and is there a place I can park my truck?
I think it might be too cold to drive the Jeep from Sedona ( no top ) with my 2 year old so I'll tow.
Thanks
Mike

How bout Cliff hanger? Have not been, but it sounds very nice. I am heading up with Duality and Digger on table mesa road on Friday. Here are the details on the cliffhanger trail.

Arizona Virtual Jeep Club - Trails
Cliff Hanger
Trail Rating: 3.0- Location: Sedona
This is a fun trail that is in my opinion more senic than Broken Arrow. There is one difficult climb with a few shelves. The trail takes you down to oak creek and a very pretty red rock canyon, and by some old ruins of an adobe house. Good trail if you want to see Sedona without all the tourists.
How to get there:
Take 89a all the way through Sedona. there is a short left turn lane across from a water treatment plant. you turn directly onto a dirt road over a cattle guard. go to the right and take the path that looks like it goes down towards a canyon. the trail goes along a creek bed then climbs out of a canyon. at the 4 way junction take the trail that goes up, it takes you over a hill then down to the ruins and oak creek. the other trails at the junction take you back into town.

Mike, you should be able to find a spot somewhere in Jerome to park your tow rig... maybe up by the mine just north of town? I am not too familiar with parking around there, though.
I will PM my cell phone number to everyone, in case there are any last minute changes of plan. See you all tomorrow!

Lots of fun!. Really like the new gears, it's like the Cannon camera " point and shoot" It goes where I point it.
The family also had a great time on the trails on Friday. I really want to do the steps backwards
Thanks Everyone had lots of fun
