I finally picked up a set of ratchet stratps. I haven't had any conventional need for them, but they are on sale at Ace (big sale this weekend).

I know that many people have used them for trail repairs and such. Can anyone comment on, or show pics of your conventional/unconventional use of ratchet straps?

We racheted up Daniel one night on CK to get his axles straight after his control arm failure. I think RussChung had pics though....

Like Grunt YJ said, that was one heck of a cool trail repair. The Jeep's lower control arm bracket broke and we used 2 ratchet straps in place of his control arm. I also saw someone use one to hold up his exhaust. I like having one or two around to help seat beads on tires if you lose a bead. I'm sure they have a million other uses but I haven't (thankfully) had much need of them yet. (knock on wood)

Used 4 ratchet straps in Moab last year after a guy ripped off his track bar mount from the frame. Drove it 6 miles out of Poison Spider Mesa, then into town.

I use them in the back of my jeep to secure my tool boxes and parts for when I flop.:D

or keeping your spring from flexing if you have to use yor high lift as a last resort to change a flat. the lower you keep those the better

I use the ratchet straps and a hoist to take off/on my hardtop.

X2. Makes for a cheap and effective storage solution for my hardtop.

I always carry 4 or so. Secure items in tub that WILL become headbangers when I flop. Also so weight does not shift when offcamber.

I know it is not Jeep related, but this "little" concrete ball was heavier than I expected.

Can't find any pics, but at the time I only had 2 bolts per side securing my transfer skid. One bolt sheared off so I used a ratchet strap from the hole in the skid up around the roll cage to hold it up until I got home.
