So my daughter got her first job a couple of weeks ago, which means first paychecks. I decided to take her to get her first savings account to go with it and also to spend a little father/daughter time that seems to be increasingly less as she gets older.
We are sitting in the "paperwork cubicle" taking care of all the annoying necessities. The woman setting up the account is asking my daughter various questions when she comes to this: "Ok Brianna, what is your mothers maiden name?" I look over to my daughter curious if she knew this one. She didn't. She looks at me for the answer. "That is your mother's name before she was married" I say. Her slightly confused gaze doesn't change. Trying to get her to come up with the answer, I say "what is your grandpa's last name?" After a second or two of contiplation, she perks up and says "Oh, White!" The employee starts typing. My daughter is quiet briefly, but then turns to me. Here it comes. "What's your maiden name, Dad?"
I pause. Did she say that? While I'm mulling this over, she was doing the same. After several seconds and an exchanging of blank stares, she realizes and says "just kidding" with a hint of nervous laughter. Kids.
