Does disconnecting the rear SWAYBAR NOT THE trackbar on an 04 LJ help much? Running 35's 3.5" RE lift stock short arms.

Don't know about the TJ's or LJ's but I took my off on my YJ and it helped tremendously.. I was recently on a section of the Dusy, Ca. and it was very, very impressive how much more articulation I had.. Don't get me wrong it's not a TJ or LJ but I was very satified with the way it handled the trail. I did take it off before I trekked out to CA. but keep my front sway bar connected. Disconnected it when I hit the trail and off I went. I figure I'd keep it like this until I roll

That is the only think that holds you axle centered on lj. DO NOT REMOVE!!! I have see it done once and could not believe my eyes. You can remove your sway bar and get more articulation.

X2, I know there is someone on here(I will not name names) who does it, but it is very dangerous. Disco the rear SWAYBAR instead. Trackbar is what centers your axle under the Jeep, take it off, and one day your axle will walk out from under your Jeep. The only way to do this is triangulate the rear. Uppers or uppers and lowers(double triangulation). When the axle goes, it is gonna cost a lot of $$$ to repair.
I used JKS Quick Discos for a 4" lifted YJ on my rear swaybar(01 TJ, 5 1/2" lift). That way I had it when I wanted, but could disco when I wanted too.

Rear triangulated 4 link will eliminate the rear Track bar.. RK or RE both have kits to do this..

X2 above.

The stock control arm setup has just a little triangulation, just enough to eliminate the tendancy to side to side wobble. The track bar, does all the real work. If you take the track bar off a coil spring rig, the control arms will hold it in the middle with no stress but if you put a side load on it, you could easily lose control of the vehicle or tear off some mounts. The leaf spring vehicle seem to be able to tolerate the side loads better.

No problem, your YJ should be fine without it. You are not who I was referring to. He might post up in a few though.;)

I don't run any swaybars front or rear, you might get some body roll on offcamber, but you will get used to it. If you keep the front, when you turn and get on it, you will lift a front tire. Looks cool in a parking lot, you can do 3 wheel circles!;)

The sway bars on both ends of ANY production vehicle are there to set limit handling control paramaters to a predictable range level for on-road safety, when operated by an average driver...

Disconnecting them will improve the ability of opposite tires to retain higher contact patch pressures of the tires, thus increase traction and thus mobility, withch is a definate plus in many types of off-roading maneuvers and activity's... There are however, certian types of off-roading where this will become a detriment, such as during offcamber situations...

Disconnecting them is a significant reduction in on-road handling predictability... I know several folks who permantly disconnect them, and who have been fortunate to not have encountered a situation where this has gotten them into trouble, but there are many instances where it has as well...

In any event, my advice is that if you wish to disconnect them, make whatever mechanisim you utilize simple enough to allow you to re-connect them for extended highway uses, so that you are able to retain the suspension geometry predictability (safety) for on-road maneuvers...

HTH...Good Luck...:);)

I don't run one in the rear. I have also run w/out one in the front at the same time. Its not to bad on road...

I only plan on disconnecting them on the trails as needed.
Thanks Walter
