My transfer case is leaking badly from the "shaft" (Not the output shaft) directly next to the fill plug. The the t-case need to be taken completely apart to fix this?

As stated it's the intermediate shaft, there is an o-ring groove on most shafts and this o-ring eventually drys out, shrinks up and causes some seepage...

Unfortunately to correctly fix this problem you need to pull the t-case and pull the intermediate shaft out, there are 60 something odd bearings you have to chase around and then replace the o-rings...

I honestly don't know if you can get the o-rings seperate... For the effort you need to go through, your at the prime moment to replace all the output shaft seals, check the other bearings, replace the shifter shafts seals, etc...

Hope this helps some...
