Hello to everyone. I just recently purchased a 2008 Jeep JK 4 door. I have always wanted a Jeep so I went for it. So far I love it! I've been checking the internet for a suspension lift, 4''. Skyjacker is jumping out at me right now, any comments?
I look forward to going on some runs in the near future. Thxs.

Welcome to the club !!
Sorry, I have no opinion on Skyjacker, I use Rubicon Express myself. Try searching the product review topic thread.

I would look at Rock Krawler or Rubicon Express. Good lifts.
Give Joe Daro a call at Absolute Offroad 602-248-8949
He is at SEMA this week but once he gets back into the shop he would be the guy to talk to.

There was a decent write-up on various lift kits in a recent JP magazine.
It explains how each performs on road, rocks, etc...
Checkout this link for the summary.

Hope it helps!

So you got one of the new H4's, congrats :D JK, I like the 4-door idea, just not the engineering.
What do you want to do with your Jeep? You need to ask yourself this question and know how hard you want to beat your b*tch. Once you know this, then you can decide on how big of a tire you want to go with. Knowing these things will help you decide on how and how high you want to lift it.
The first thing I would do on EVERY Jeep is replace that POS stock steering that's on there. You're sure to break that sooner or later, and when you do, it could make for a very bad day if you're not prepared
As far as "kits" go, I would only trust Toys By Troy (TXT), since Nth is now out of business. Troy is local and builds amazing stuff that is as close to bullet-proof as you can get. His sh*t is very well engineered and he stands by all his products. It's built to last and take a beating. Just remember, like everything in life... you get what you pay for ;)
Unfortunately TXT wasn't in the JP lift write-up, but I can guarantee that it would have smoked all the others hands down.
.............OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What is with the 4th grade censorship around here??!!

Congratulations on your new '08 JK 4-door--a very sweet and capable ride! :)
I agree that the most important question is "What do I want to do with my Jeep?" Also ask yourself if you drive with skill and finesse or just go out and "beat" the rocks? ;)
Tires are the most effective investment you make in your Jeep--don't skimp on the tire budget!
As for lifts, the JP article on lift kits was pretty straight up, though certainly did not represent EVERY option out there. We have run A LOT of Rubicon Express stuff and always been happy. A popular and readily available kit is going to much easier to service over the long haul.
With the amount of money you are talking, my advice would be to visit several shops IN PERSON, talk to the fabricator/tech, and see with whom you feel the most comfortable. You want a good working RELATIONSHIP with whoever is doing the work on your Jeep, because no matter how good a job they do on the lift, you WILL be back frequently (Jeep= Just Empty Every Pocket). And take the recommendations of that person seriously. One kit may have this, another may have that, but you want your tech to install a kit he (or she ;)) knows and has confidence in.
I would disagree with the need to replace the stock steering on the JK's. The JK steering is much beefier than the TJ's was, and will be more than adequate for the needs of most off-pavement Jeepers, even with a moderate lift and tire upgrade. We took JK's with 35's, ran 15K miles ALL offroad in the rental biz (read "abused"), on everything from Schnebly Hill Road to Pritchett Canyon, and never lost a single steering component--(motors, sway bars, body panels, shocks, rims, skid plates, but nothing in the steering!). But, again, refer back to the question "What do I want to do with my Jeep?"
Happy trails!

Except for the fact that Troy is not doing JK lifts, and is getting out of the Jeep business. He is doing mostly powder coating now. RK or RE is the way to go.

There are many factors to consider when lifting your JK. First and FOREMOST, MAKE SURE THAT THE SHOP THAT DOES IT KNOWS, UNDERSTANDS and can MODIFY the ESP quirks in the JK. They are there and its not the same as lifting a TJ by any means!! Also realize that you will need driveshafts in your Jeep if you do anything MORE than 3.5". Its something that will not be covered under ANY warranty either by the dealer, extended warranty or shop warranty. Also Pay attention to the TPMS in the 08 models also!! Another thing is to try to talk to a JK owner about thier lift kit, see what they like about it, or dont like about it. Skyjacker is not a bad kit, but they are a little high priced for what is included with the lift. How big of a tire do you want to run??? You can run a 33" tire with a 2" lift, 35's with a 3.5" lift, 37's with a 5.5" lift and 40's with a 5.5 and a body lift :D All with ZERO trimming. Poke around this website www.absoluteoffroadphx.com there are lots of JK parts there and watch for TONS of new JK products being added in the next week!
