View Full Version : New Jeep Owner in Maricopa

Well, almost Maricopa. I am actually 17 miles south of town just north of Interstate 8. There are jeep trails all over out here! :)
My interests are exploring the Sonoran Desert, the historical sites, and taking pictures. I got my Jeep because it gets me to the places where I want to take my camera but then I realized how much fun it is just driving off road.
I have a stock 97 TJ. About the only thing that's been changes is big tires. I hope to lift it a little to accomodate the tires, and I wouldn't mind having a locker someday. I am not really into extreme rock climbing.
I look forward to the forum so that I can read about life off road and hopefully learn how to enjoy it without getting stuck somewhere.
About the only question I have now is, where is the best place to find a hood for my TJ?
Thanks!

Welcome to the club and I'm sure you'll enjoy your TJ.
Oh btw, getting stuck is kind of a right of passage... It's bound to happen sooner or later.

"Stuck" is a frame of mind! :D The best way to deal with "stuck" is to go prepared! The three most common stucks are:
1. Tire damage
2. High centered/ended on a rock
3. Buried in sand/mud/snow
Take the time to understand the basics of getting out of those situations safely and you will have 90% of it covered! ;)
Welcome and Happy trails!

I have been wanting to do a run to the site of the Oatman Massacre. I have done a bunch of historical research and pulled up some pictures and witness accounts from the era.
What do you think about the Saturday after Thanksgiving? My daughter will be here from Hawaii and this will give her a chance to see part of Arizona that's different from the Scottsdale Fashion Square :)

I will go with you. I would like my son to see it. I have done the Stage route close to it a number of times.
You should post a run under the runs section(in the appropraite field for that trail) with a date, etc. You will et several takers, will be fun! Post here:

I posted the run in the pleasure and stock runs section. I got the basic details in there - feel free to post anything else about it that would be interesting or useful. It will be a blast to head out that way with a bunch of Jeeps. It will also give everyone a chance to bounce off some of that Thanksgiving dinner.

Just semantics's but by off road I"m sure you mean off Highway :) As apposed to off trail or off road. :) Hope to see you out this part of the valley :)

Yeah, you're right. I guess as a new guy, anything that doesn't have four lanes, white lines, yellow stripes and a center divider isn't a road :)

If you go to the town of Oatman.....beware the burros(wild, not carne asada). They can bite.
