just wanted to share an image of my new diy beadlocks.

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p45/maffuhinitt/100_3792.jpg

the tires (38-12.50-15 TSL SX's) should be in the shop on monday so i will post up more pics later.
i'm burning in the fullwidth 44 and 9 in. this weekend.
the die for the bender will be here soon and the cage will be going in shortly.

i'm just throwing more money at it, but all i keep thinking is "you can't polish a turd"

i bet theyll leak from your crappy welds :D

lilbluej
11-09-2007, 05:18 PM
:D:D haha they all did leak
so between the two that leaked because of the valves i got at discount and the other two that leaked because of the weld that was filling the old valve hole i had them all together, apart and back together once each. they suck!

driveshafts are next. the rear is a couple inches too short ( you can see the splines at ride hight ) and the front is way too long ( the splined end hits the pinion yoke ) i scored some dom and a chop saw so they will be all set this weekend. and the steering might be a little longer than i thought because balistic fab is waiting on parts.

Matt looks good bud... I see Rosco never got around to giving you the ROC stickers... I got your Phockerz patch though... let me know when you want it.

Where is Rosco; haven't seen him around :(

Hopefully my junk will be back on the road soon and we can go attack that lil obsticle we looked at this summer :D... Stretched, full width with those tire, you should be good to go.

Nice wheels and tires. I was considering that same size tire for my jeep... 38x12.5x15 TSL/SX (interco says they are 37.4"). I'm wondering though if that is too much tire for my TJs d44's. I have alloy usa front and rear with yukon super joints and 5.13s but I'm still thinking its too much tire for me.

Looks awesome on your jeep though

ya i know that some might say i'm at the limits of the rear 31spline 9 in. and front 30 spline 44. i do have the 4 pooper so in my mind the axles are plenty strong for what i need, but on the other hand i've seen a bone stock rubi break a rear shaft

do you have any plans for you old front drive shaft? I am looking for a trail spare

lilbluej
11-12-2007, 05:12 PM
i was planning on cuting it up to make the square front drive shaft. plus i just cut 2 inches out of it to make it work for now so i don't think it will bolt in your jeep. sorry i can't help you out.

balistic is supposed to ship my steering goodies soon so the money pit will be stuck in the garage while 4 wheelers machines my knuckle for the high steer arm.

You should be OK as long as you are easy on the skinny pedal. My 37" Creepies are 37.2" new, and are stickier than the TSL SXs. I run 30 spl rear Alloy USA, and 30 spline inner/outer/unit bearings and Yukon super Joints front. 5.89 gears.

compareing the durometer #s of the TSL/SX with the duro # of my current bias claws (mine aren't comp claws), the SX has a softer tread.

the SX has a tread durometer # of 58
regular bias claws have a tread durometer # of 68
competition krawlers have a duro # of 43
competition claws have a durometer # of 41 !

considering how well my bias claws perform in the rocks (i really like my bias claws), I'm really hopeing that when I go to the TSL/SX's that they will grip even better since it is softer tread rubber... and after I groove them to allow the SX tread to flex better around the rocks. A sticky tire isn't all about rubber compound... also has to do with carcus/sidewall stiffness and a good tread pattern that can flex and grab. the SX have a combo of polyester belts and steel belts for the tread and polyester belts for the sidewalls. Makes them have a super strong carcus but also being very stiff which may not let them flex and work well when trying to wrap around rocks.

I'll have to wait and see. LilBlue - have you had yours out in the rocks enough to make an opinion? If i don't like them then the next time I'll save up the coin and go to the Maxxis creepy. But a set of 4 TSL/SX are about $600 less than the maxxis so I'm going to give em a shot.

I don't know the durometer of the maxxis creeepy 8090. From what I hear they are really nice and soft for a regular bias tread. maybe low 50s (just guessing)

might be a stupid ? but oh well why do you want to groove a tire

YGOHOME
12-27-2007, 07:04 PM
the TSL tires have those giant lugs and the more edges you can groove into the tire theoretically means the more edges that can grab onto the rock. also, the big lugs are so huge that they prevent the tire from flexing as well as it would if those lugs were divided into two or three lugs

ahh i see

well i think groving would be a good idea. i've had them at about 7psi and they feel like the could go lower, the sidewalls didn't roll. i didn't get it down real low because the guage i had was in bad shape. i haven't had any time to even finish it so its hard to say how they preform on a trail but going up the double step 6 foot waterfall behind my house was a cake walk for them even though the falls are loose rocks.

I run my sx's at about 4. Mine are 36 and they still look like they have a lot of air in them.
