Subject: "FF99" reservations

Hello All,
If anyone is planning on going to the "FF 99" XJ outing in Silverton Colorado, now is the time to be making the reservations for your stay. I just got off the phone with Ouray KOA (Headquarters for NAXJA), and the tent sites are going fast. There is also RV sites open. If this location fills up, there is room in Silverton Lakes campgrounds, but it is about 35 minutes from Ouray. (Very beautiful place though). The Headquarters were in Amphitheater CG, but had to be changed, so now they will be in Ouray. I hope this information helps.
If you need any more info. the web site is http://naxja.org/FF'99/candlinf.htm
Hope to see you there!!!!!

Hello George,
My name is Keith Orr (Casper), I live in Safford, AZ. I noticed your e-mail posting and see that you are vacationing in Colorado. By chance are you going to the "FF 99" with NAXJA? That would be great!! I know that Dave Oboyle, Myself, and a few others are going. Let us know, it is possible that we might arrange a convoy of AZ_VJC XJer's to CO. That would be impressive!!!! Hope to see you there!

Thanks,
Keith (Casper)

Pictures of the White Tanks came out pretty well....a few good ones of Shannon and her XJ. I've been extremely busy with work and haven't had much time to JEEP. I need to get the photos to someone who can scan them in. My schedule doesn't see much slack. Work 5 days this week (I usually work only 4-10s), then vacation in Colorado the following week (looking forward to the cool)...taking Marcia's XJ. Then back to work!

I installed a Jacob's on my '89 XJ. It did not make much noticeable difference. I'll sell the setup for $100 if anyone is interested. As I recall, it cost about $250-300.

The 4.0 in your model Jeep is a damn good powerplant stock. Don't waste your
money on power goodies with this motor. Your best bang for buck will come
from a ring and pinion swap. What ratio ring and pinion do you have in your
axles? What size tires are you running? And is it a 5 speed or automatic?
Add up the cost of the ignition upgrade (300), Borla header (300), Borla
high flow catback exhaust(289), high flow catalytic converter, and of course
there's the TC power kit that's available. These power goodies will not
begin to improve your seat of the pants acceleration, power for pulling the
trailer and climbing grades like having the proper gearing will. And this
would be the perfect time to upgrade your diffs with lockers or limited
slips if you use it for offroading.

I've done some of these mods on my 95 YJ and they are nothing in comparison
to regearing. I've only added a K&N air filter to my new TJ and that will be
it. I'm only spending my money on the gears this time around.

Hello All,
If anyone is planning on going to the "FF 99" XJ outing in Silverton Colorado, now is the time to be making the reservations for your stay.

I'd go for a ring and pinion swap to 4.56. The 4 banger is a good little
offroad motor, but does lack on the highway. Not enough added performance is
gained from ignition and exhaust upgrades on the later model Jeeps to make
it worth the money IMO. On older Jeeps ignition upgrades as well as fuel
injection and exhaust mods can have more dramatic effects.

Jeff,
Future Fest 99 is being held in Silverton CO. The dates are the 26th through the 1st of Aug. If by chance I gave you the wrong address this is it:
http://naxja.org/FF99/xjforum.htm
On this web page you will find many heading you can click on to get the rest of the information concerning lodging/travel/events/trails/members/signup/what you need/etc. It is for XJ's only, but I believe there are other organizations going that accept other 4x4's. Also after the week of the NAXJA event they are staying on for more off-roading which I believe anyone can participate in . Let me know if I can help you out in any way. Be glad to!!!!!

Welcome Mike! It's amazing how quickly this group is growing. With the
large number of members we now have, there's always something going on.
Many weekends we even have more than one run planned. We have people
with all types of Jeeps, from basically stock models like mine to super
modified rock crawlers. People with all levels of experience, too. And
everyone I've met has been very helpful and patient with the less
experienced. I'm looking forward to meeting you, and all the other new
members, very soon.

Hello Mike,
Welcome aboard! I am the owner of an 87 XJ myself. I have begun to reach
the point where I am satisfied with my rig for now. Not really, I am sure
there will more that I want to do as time goes. By the way, do you know
about the "FF 99" event in Colorado. It is for XJ owners. I believe there is
still room for signup. I am trying to let everyone know in our Club
(AZ_VJC). It will be held from the 26th of July to the 1st of Aug. There
will be trails for all levels of experience. Here is the address for the web
page incase you are interested:
http://naxja.org/FF99/xjforum.htm
Anyways, welcome aboard! The people in AZ_VJC are great people, and are
allot of help in the areas of fixing up your rig. They have given me allot
of good advice. Looking forward to meeting you. Maybe in Colorado?

Scott, already have ARB front and rear, with 4.10s for ring and pinion. I am
running 35 for tires. I have a three speed 727 auto trans. I like the gas
mileage and the RPM running down the highway, 2800 at 65 mph. If I gear down
further both of these will suffer. I am looking for a little added power on
the hills. Unfortunately I have to drive the jeep to work and a lot of
highway miles, so any lower gear and I would have to race the engine. Need a
new exhaust, so that will be a start and I will see how it does. Hate the way
the factory runs the stock exhaust bent it up many times.
Thanks for the info.,
Bill

Keith,

Nope, not going to the FF99 gig. My wife Marcia and myself are cruising the microbrews across the state of Colorado. Silverton, Ouray, Grand Junction, then into Utah...Moab..then home. No real plans to 4WD...but one never knows.

Thanks,

I am not sure when you are going, but if you are in the area the same time (Ouray-26th through Aug. 1st) as we are, look us up at the Ouray KOA. Sounds like you and your wife will have a great time.

Hey , is there anyone else from AZVJC going to the Rim on the 2nd or 3rd? If so maybe we can hookup into one group up there. Doug, we are at Norther and Sqauw Peak, we may go up I17, it is much quiker from there for us. We could meet up at H87 and Shea at one of the gas stations there.
