My friends a I use them all the time. Love the fact that you can take them
anywhere whether you are in the jeep of not. I am using a Maxon FRS-214 and
it works great.
CB's just don't have the functionality of a talkabout. Besides, you can use
them sking as well. But you and I know all about that.
Just a reminder "soft windows 98" "Virtual PC"
Talk to you soon,

I wouldn't waste my money on a Jacobs. They are over priced and
unreliable. Get an MSD instead. The MSD does more for horsepower and
costs less.

My personal experience with Jacobs are they are junk. We have put them
on the Dyno with a couple of different vechicle and the made no
horsepower improvements. My personal experence with them is they made
no gas mileage improvement on my 4.0 and the unit would go into a
minimimal spark mode when hot that made the engine feel like it was
running at 0 degrees advance. Shutting off the engine was the only way
to rest it. When I finally isolated it down to the fact it was the
Jacobs that was causing the problem (after putting on a couple ignition
modules), Jacobs was totally unhelpfull since the warrenty period had
expired. Their response is we will sell you a refurbished unit for
another $100. Since it made no noticable difference in power or milage
I told them to shove it.

I had a complete custom exhaust built. My Cat was plugged with 120K on
it so I had Pro Dyno in Tempe build my exhaust with a new High Flow cat
a 2 1/2" high flow exhaust. With adding the Borla header I got a very
nice increase in power. I didn't schedule any dyno time for the change
since the cat was plugged anyway anything would have been an improvment.
Give them a call about doing an exhaust for you brian. They do very good
work and if you want real performance numbers they will do before and
after dyno runs to document the results.

Hi Leonard, I have one of the Jacobs Torq models. It definitley smoothed out
the 258cid idle and added pep at the low end. The other spot it was
noticable was in fourth pushing it on the high way, the run on also went
away. Sounds like you are into it but mine works pretty good as far as I can
tell and now I have a backup system to.

I had the OMNI Magnum. With my 87 XJ 4.0 you got the results as
documented below. I have seen magizines publish dyno numbers for the
258 showing it helped so my guess is the 258 ignition/carbration system
isn't as good as the 4.0L.
Any way from what I've seen on the dyno at Pro Dyno the MSD almost
always gave an improvement and the Jacobs never did; however, we only
tested it on FI engines so Carburated engines might work better with it.
The thing I was trying to tell is my bad experence with Jacobs which for
a $300-400 unit is unacceptable. Glad you like yours though.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions on upgrading the 4.0 engine.
Here is what I am going to try.
I like the custom exhaust idea, and headers. That, with an MSD, (off road
model), and a modified throttle body, air tube and filter from Turbocity, I
think that is about all one can hope for on a small straight six engine. I
think I will have Pro Dyno do a before and after so I can let you all know
what improvements were gained.
Thanks again.

Tell Pro Dyno I sent you over there. You should find them very
knowledgeable. Before you do the exhaust you should also get a pricing
from them. I've found their price comparable to the mail order and you
don't have to the work.
Also with the modified Air body they might work with you as an R&D as
they are always looking for things that work.

OK you guys, what about my itty bitty '94 YJ 4 cylinder boat anchor?
What can I do to increase performance there?
Also, it seems like my computer is acting up. After about a 45 min
drive, I'll stop. When I turn the engine back on, it's either idling
high (2.5) or it idles so low that it almost shuts off. Has anyone
else experienced this problem?

it works great.
CB's just don't have the functionality of a talkabout. Besides, you can use
them sking as well. But you and I know all about that.

Does anyone have any info on an accident that happened last weekend ( 6-18>6-20 ) on the back road to Crown King?

Pictures of the White Tanks came out pretty well....a few good ones of Shannon and her XJ. I've been extremely busy with work and haven't had much time to JEEP. I need to get the photos to someone who can scan them in. My schedule doesn't see much slack. Work 5 days this week (I usually work only 4-10s), then vacation in Colorado the following week (looking forward to the cool)...taking Marcia's XJ. Then back to work!

I installed a Jacob's on my '89 XJ. It did not make much noticeable difference. I'll sell the setup for $100 if anyone is interested. As I recall, it cost about $250-300.
