Hi all I have found that my 90 yj has a few pin hole leaks in the fuel tank. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix the leaks Inexpensivly? I dont want to spend the $$ on a new one when I am going to be moving the rear axle back when I swap in the 8.8 but thats a few months away. I was thinking of just draining the tank, and cleaning up the areas and just put on a layer or two of fiberglass. Or maybe I could just tack welkd because I got one of them metal mkin machines! The last one was a joke:)
Thanks

I'll look into the fuel tank repair but where in AJ? I'm over near Tomahawk and Baseline. Look forward to wheeling with a fellow east ender :)

I sealed my new tank with pr1776m. I know it is not anything you can find at parts store though, but if it is easy to get to and it is not leaking at the time you could come by and gob some on and see if it will work. I have a tj tank if you think you could make it work.

Thanks guys. I live by ironwood and broadway. SO pretty dang close. I ordered some por tank sealer stuff but it wont be here till next monday, and we have a trip planned for martinez this weekend (welcome to come if you want). SO I am going to go ahead and try the fiberglass and hope it works.
Thanks again

What about some epoxy putty... Kind of like plummers putty, but made for metal... Knead it together and smoosh it on the tank.

I have never had a YJ develop pin holes--they always just imploded and killed the pump, thereby requiring a full replacement. Anyway, a client of mine used a bar of Ivory soap to patch the holes in his YJ tank. :D I am serious! Obviously, I haven't tried it, but it sounds like one of those great trail patches to me. Someone else be the guinea pig and let me know how it goes! :D

Have it sprayed with bedliner.

If the tank is empty and dry, the fibreglass will work but only as a temp patch and only if you let the glass dry fully before refilling with gas. eventually, the gas will work thru the glass but based on time frames you stated, you should be fine as long as you coat it really good and make sure and work it tight at the holes.
I have used the pour in type sealer that you can get at cycly shops for sealing the inside of tanks and it works really good, but is a lot of work and the tank has to be out of the vehicle

Thanks, guys I think I have it fixed for now. I cleaned out the tank and cleaned all the areas that needed to be repaired with a wire brush and brake parts cleaner. Then I fiberglassed the holes over. I have also sealed the inside of the tank with some tank sealer I got at napa. hopfully it wil lat for a couple months.
later
