Hi All, no pictures for me to post, too busy driving:) I had a blast:D I want to say thank you so much to everyone that spotted and watched over me on the trip, Dave, George, the nice fellow in the yellow jeep (so sorry I forgot your name:o)and a special thanks to SamDog. You made me feel secure knowing you were there covering me at all times, and ya did'nt even need that tow rope ya had ready for me! due to all the great spotting help I got from everyone. Thanks Samdog for the trip up widow maker, it was awesome!. Dave your description of the trail fit me to a tee, lots of puckering and thinking "oh **** what have I got myself into now! I learned alot yesterday and had a blast doing things I never thought myself or my stock GC could do:D So thanks again to all it was a great run, but maybe the last for me, I dropped the Jeep off at airpark this morning I screwed something up in the front end/tire. Until I get a Wrangler or lift's that's it for me for a while. I am bumbed, but since the Jeep is my only vehicle and I am not loaded with money I have to take it easy and not wreck it. Keep fingers crossed what ever I did is not major, but I sure had fun doing it:D Thanks to both the nice gentlemen that took video with my Video camera, Like one of you said "great video of April's carnage to the jeep" Your comments were too funny when I played it back!! Good job guys. :p Happy trails to all!!! Your all a great bunch of Jeeping people;)

Hi all,

Just got a call from John at airpark. Yeah, last run with the club for me, last anything for a while. I broke the front axle, tie rod center bent, track bar just to get it safe to drive again will be $2,800.00:D and a week to get it back. I am real lucky I made it out of Sycamore and home and to work this morning. i have a call into the insurance now, I don't know if they can help or not I hope so...Say a prayer for me they will cover it, if not I may be riding the bus for a while. :( I sure had fun though. Now I gotta pay the price....

broken front axle bent tie rod and a bent/broken track bar was 2800?? sounds like a wrenching party is needed soon. Id hold off on the insurance claim. You can fix it much cheaper and not have a claim on your insurance for th enext 2-3 years.

Broken axle, no way! I was with on all the hard parts of the trail and i did not hear an axel brake. I will call John to get the info on this. George

how sweet a thought for a wrenching party, John just called said he was wrong on one thing, not the axle but the drive shaft was busted and the other stuff I mentioned. As far as insurance, I have not had a ticket or accident in 10 years. So hopefully my rates will not be affected. I do not have the cash or enough credit to pay for the repairs myself. Since I was driving down the beeline on the way to Payson to visit a friend and hit the rock due to construction:rolleyes:, looks like they will cover it. $500.00 deduct better than 2,800.00:) and they pay 80% of my rental car, it will take a week to get the parts to fix it. Well gang, it was fun, but no more runs for me unless I can sit passenger with someone. It will take me forever to save enough to raise it up and stuff so I can "play with the big boys" as John at airpark said. When I get the repairs paid off (last month the computer and water pump went out that was about $1,000.00, thats why I have no credit now available, then maybe I can have a wrenching party:confused: Oh well, keep your fingers crossed when the claims adjuster checks it out they still ok it to pay.:o one last thing, I KNEW I SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE OVER THAT BIG ROCK!!! I am sure that is when it happend. I am lucky I made it out of Sycamore let alone home and work. I have a angel watching over me for sure!:D

Hi George,

Your right John was saying the wrong thing, it is the driveshaft. I am not a mechanic so I have no idea when I am being shafted (lol) but since Airpark is recommended highly by AVJC I figured they would not try to "screw" me. John said someone called about it, now I know who. Thanks so much for watching out for me it is very appreciated:D I had heard a noise after the rock I kissed so nicely, told Sam Dog he said if it kept up to take it in, on the way home anything over 30 it shimmed real bad and when I hit the brakes it makes a bad Thump, thump, thump noise. So as Sam Dog suggested I took it in. And now we know....Thanks again George for calling Airpark!!

It sounds like the drivshaft is bent. Do not buy a new one. That is a repair that a driveshat shop can do. Have John call me so I can get the info on your jeep. I left him my number. George

Wow, 22 jeeps going through the trails was very cool to see snaking around Sycamore, Great job leading Dave, I dont have pics from the run, forgot my camera as usual, but for those that saw me having trouble on the widow maker at the end of the run, here is a video of me going up the same spot without slipping a tire. Guess the ground was too dry yesterday.

This video was done about 9 months ago when Dave and I went Rocker Panel Pass.

I just talked with John. The drag link is bent and end are worn out. I have those parts, for aTJ. Dont know if they fit a Grand. He also said the track bar is bent. Junk yard part. You dont need a front drivshaft to drive the jeep, so just take it off. George

if insurance doesnt cover check out the four wheel shops there prices are usually cheaper than the dealerships plus there are plent of people here who are willing to give a fellow jeeper a hand you might be able to work something out with somebody if they dont cover it post up on what you need ill keep a look out for some stuff if they dont cover it for you

you guys are all wonderful:D, I appreciate the help that is being offered and advice. George, John called me and let me know you called him. He told me since mine is a all time 4wd I can not disconnect the drive shaft like you can in yours. He did not want to discuss too much with you since he was not sure whom you were. For now I am going to wait and see what the insurance will cover. If it does not work out, I will be posting for help. I can use a company truck as long as I need, so if worse comes to worse I will park the Jeep and we can all put our heads together and see what we can do to fix it over time. I know a dealership cost more, but alot of postings and jeep club members had said they were very good, so that is why I took it there, and it is close to my work. If the insurance does not work then yes, I will need advice and help from anyone willing to give it. I will post up later today or tomorrow am and let ya know what the insurance says. Thanks again for all the help, you all are great, but please, don't call John again, I think he is getting mad. for some reason he thinks our club bad mouths airpark? I told him I never did see or hear that, and Jason is always getting good posts to him from us and the only reason I took it there was on the AVJC recommendation, he seemed happier then. anyways BIG THANKS TO ALL:D:D

What did you do?

If you can scrape up some used parts we could help with the install!

That is so cool to see chicks beating up their rigs along side the guys :D

My wife really beat mine up once.

Dealerships all need to make money to keep the doors open. They charge high prices to keep quality mechanics around for those who need them. Most of us just don't need them too often :). Airpark seems to treat us members pretty good.

I would bet for your $500 deductible you could get a lot of parts and there are tones of people on here who like to wrench on jeeps just for the hell of it ( me included :D )

I was out apartment hunting with our daughter all day and just heard about this. I'm appalled that Airpark wants so much - but they are a dealership, so go figure. I hate it when they give incorrect information and these kinds of prices to girls just because we're girls.

And to be perfectly honest, if they're getting pizzy because George called them, then let them be pizzy. Really! Just because a man is looking out for a friend! Suck it up guys!

This is one of my pet peeves if you'd like to know: auto repair places that think girls know nothing. I always made them mad because I know a lot, and I'd call them on their game-playing tactics. Now, maybe Airpark is not game-playing; maybe their just high.

Anyhow, I'm sure that between us we can gather the parts and do the wrenching for April for a WHOLE LOT LESS than $2,800!!

I would be willing to throw in some labor on the project, I am a ASE certified master autotech. I work every other sat. for my company and of course mon thru fri. but i can help out on a sunday, or any sat. that i am off. you can PM me or send an email to Lorin842@msn.com I dont usually check the web site often so email would probably be a better way to get a hold of me.

April, I just now got a chance to log in since the trip and , I'm so sorry your Jeep got beat up like that! I feel like crap and I want to help anyway I can. I didn't know you had damaged anything. The whole time I kept thinking about you and how you were doing and the times I saw you driving I was totally impressed how well you were handling the trail! If there's anything I can do to help you - heck, I'll let you borrow my Jeep for as long as you need it if necessary. I can drive a company car no problem. Let me know. Also, I'll vouch for Lorin (Bustedknuckles5) and his expertise as a mechanic. He's a long-time close friend and the most trustworthy mechanic I've ever known. He saved my butt the first time I broke my axle and on other occasions too. Really, ANYTHING I can do to help - please ask.

Hi Dave and all my fellow Jeepers GOOD NEWS, Insurance went to airpark, the estimator knew right away I did not hit a rock on the beeline highway:o but okayed it to be fixed anyway:D:D:D I do have a credit card that will cover my 500.00 deduct and they are paying for 80% of the car rental. (I hate that car, I want my Jeep back) but since I am the one that broke it I gots to live with it. I should have it back by next Friday, it takes a few days to get the drive shaft from parts. PLEASE, NO ONE FEEL BAD FOR ME , I knew going in, that accidents are possible, I knew better than to go over that rock, but I did anyways:eek: I also want to say to all that has offered any help with this a big THANK YOU;) I really did not post up my troubles expecting help, just wanted to let ya know I can do carnage too like the big boys! LOL, except I better not do that till the Jeep is paid off and I have a second vehicle. Gotta admit, My Jeepie did pretty darn good considering I did that damage half way through the run, just think what it could do if I raised it up and put better tires on it, ooh, no , I better not go there! Thanks for the compliments on my driving by the way, it means alot to me. Well, next time a run comes up I wish to go on, I will pm some friends here and see if I can shot gun, I will provide lunch and help with gas. Thanks again to all and now I know my baby will be fixed I can Eat, Sleep and be happy again.:):D

Thank you so much for your offer of help. It means alot to me. Insurance will cover the damage. Thank the Lord. But I do have other things that need to be done, nothing major not need right now but I will keep your Email and in the future give you a call, I would rather have someone like you working on my Jeep. Thanks again for the offer of help. hope to meet you some day soon:D

Wow April, you're taking all this pretty well - like one of the big boys! I'm glad it's all being taken care of but the deductible and 20% of the rental is a bite. If you want to save that 20%, I really will let you borrow my Jeep until yours is ready. Heck, I've been leaving it at my boss's house every night this week and bringing a company vehicle home anyways! If you want to do that, just give me a call at 602-319-9565. I could probably pick you up no problem - my job has me driving all over the valley, especially Scottsdale. Also, I hate to hear you say you won't be doing any more runs with us. I totally understand your concerns and I don't blame you one bit. So, I'll offer to let you ride shotgun with me anytime I'm going out. Not that my Jeep is anything special, not much more than stock. Actually, you can drive and I'll ride shotgun!

And now, since this is the picture section, I'll post my pics of the run now and I have a few of April tackling those rocks. See below...

Hi Dave,
Great pictures! you are good with the camera. Thanks so much for the offer to lend me your Jeep, but the way me and automobiles have been getting along lately I would not want to risk something happening to your Jeep while I used it:eek: But I will take you up on the offer one day to drive your Jeep with you next to me to give me instruction. I have wanted to take a Wrangler out on the trail for a long time now. I may go on a run or too still, (can't tell my friends though or they won't let me go:p) but If I see myself getting in over my head, I will turn back or park it and ride with someone else. You know what is funny to me, after looking at all the pictures posted I can see a clear line that I could have taken no problem!! I guess I need to learn to trust my "gut" and pick my own lines:D Anyways all worked out ok and I learned along time ago, I do dumb things and when I do I beat myself up for one day then move on:rolleyes: Have a good day all:D

No one played on that rock? You can get decent air on it if you line it up right!
