A Borla header also helps. There is also the JET chip which is
supposed to make it run better. Can't say for sure since they don't
make one for my 87.
After the breathing upgrades a regear works good. The factory is pretty
conseritive on gearing to make EPA milage numbers.

Great, Jeff!! (and anyone else interested and crazy enough to get up this
early). I will plan to be at the parking area about 1/4 mile in on the road
to 4Peaks (from 87) at around 4am. I am going to air down because it makes
the washboards smoother. If no one has shown up by 4:15AM or so, I will
head off on my own. Green '98TJ - with tan hardtop. Monitor CH4. Do you
know where the parking area is? It is where the ATV's and Horse trailers park.

I put a Gibson exhaust system ($250) and a K&N Air Filter ($37) and there
was a noticeable improvement in, (A) the sound, (B) the pep. With the
Gibson you can pick out the hot spots in the torque curve at about 1800PRM
and again at 3000-3200 RTPM. There seems to be an improvement pulling on
hills but you know, sometimes it's hard to really tell. The acceleration is
definitely smoother and there is less exhaust back pressure so I suppose
the claims of 10-20 more HP have at least some basis.

Think I might try the performance kit from turbocity.com. If I can talk my
wife out of more jeep money. Just put a 727 tranny in it, might have to wait
a month or so. The kit comes with the Cat-back Exhaust, Modified throttle
body, Hi flow air filter, tube and Hi flow thermostat. Thanks for the
information Brian.
If there are any other thoughts out there let me know before I spend the $450
they are asking.

Was it tough to put in the 727 auto in your jeep? I have
an XJ, the 727 would be great, much better than the peugot
it came with. I have an extra high flow thermostat and housing
if you need it

Brian,
Another thing that you can do (that I have done), Is an ignition
upgrade. I put in an Accel super coil and 8.8 wires, with splitfire
plugs(many choices on the market), this along with the others mentioned,
will also increase another 2-3.

According to Four Wheel/Off-Road, all that jet chips do is trick the
computer into a different air/fuel mixture, but on the Xj's the computer is
already responding to the best settings. So the chip is not doing much, if
anything for the price. Can't remember what issue it is in off hand. Will
try to find it and will down load for those who are interested!

The 727 is basically the same length as the 904 I replaced. On the 94
wrangler the 727 bolts up to the engine (4.0) and transfercase (231) without
any modification. Same bolt pattern on the skid plate as well. The speed
sensor has to be drilled and mounted and a small mod. on the TV linkage.
Other than that you just have to find a 727 that matches up with your splines
they were made with different sized input/output shafts. I did not do the
work on this myself, had Denies Transmissions (DTS) do it. They are located
on Cave Creak, just north of Thunderbird. One of the few places that will
take on retro fitting different trannies in vehicles. I have been very happy
with the results. A guy named Robert does all the Modification type work. If
I had the time I would have done it myself, looked to be a fairly easy
project if you have the time and tools.

You can buy one made by Jacobs, Accel, and I think there is a few more on
the market. Check with most of the auto part stores, I bought mine a Checker
but I had to order it. It was an Accel.

Hey , is there anyone else from AZVJC going to the Rim on the 2nd or 3rd? If so maybe we can hookup into one group up there. Doug, we are at Norther and Sqauw Peak, we may go up I17, it is much quiker from there for us. We could meet up at H87 and Shea at one of the gas stations there.

The group from Tucson will be swinging through the Phoenix

we can hook up in Phoenix when we stop for gas.

Thanks for the invite, I would have loved to have gone. I hope to have my rig up and
running soon. With all of the E mail traffic I keep seeing, it inspirers me to put my
toy back together. As for highway company, always glad to be a passenger. If I am
driving my jeep on a trip, I need to leave far ahead of the group. 5:38 R&P gearing
limits my top speed to about 50 MPH tops. You should see the looks I get from other
cars. They just don't understand. It's a jeep thing. Thanks for the reply.
By the way, have you ever run road 201A between Phoenix and Payson? I have a few times
and it is allot of fun . Makes a great day trip. There is some old mine stuff to check
out as well. Let me know. I told Allen (97tj) that I would go with him once my jeep was
put back together.
Well, have a good one and I'll talk to you later.

A Borla header also helps. There is also the JET chip which is

make one for my 87.

Brian,
Another thing that you can do (that I have done), Is an ignition

The group from Tucson will be swinging through the Phoenix

and will try to leave promptly) If anyone is interested,
we can hook up in Phoenix when we stop for gas.

Doug, We had gone up to Crown King and were trying to find an alternate way
down. Looking at the topo this trail (single dotted) looked like it connected
to another. But it did not we had go over 3 foot trees that were growing in
the middle of the trail. We ended up in Wickenburg !! we forgot the map was
printed in 1971 or so. But it was a long, fun trip left at 7 AM and returned
