View Full Version : Going out alone! Just Box Canyon...

Being as there are no takers for a little fun this afternoon on the East side (love to go North, but need to back sooner then that run) I'm taking a friend out to see the scenic views through box canyon.
So in case I manage to do something stupid (very possible) and my wife needs to post up that a recovery is needed, here is the planned route:
Will be following the posted 'roads' off of Hwy 79. Cottonwood to Mineral Mountian to Box Canyon. Taking extra water and food, just in case. Heading out at 1 PM and looking to be back at 5 PM. Channel 4.

Well, my thoughts as well. Figured worst case is wating 15 minutes for the next Denali to drive by. If I remember right, I can just drop into box canyon off of cottonwood?
But I committed to taking out a couple of guys from the youth group - so country they will see! Amazing that some people have never been off a a paved road before...

It's actually easier route finding go in through Price Rd.
I always leave a little extra time in my notes (for example if I'm planning on coming back at 5, I'll tell her not to worry until 7). Also show her this thread and how to post, takes 30 sec.
Have fun

I've done the Box/Cottonwood trip many times. On a wensday it'll be a lot quieter!
I've actually done Upper Woody and Lower Ajax alone, but then again..... I'm dumb!
Good luck... stay safe.... hollar if you need help!

Doesn't box run between cottonwood and price? I've only taken it going south before after other runs, so never paid that much attention.
How do I find it from Price? Just north and off to the East? And if I sound like I'm going to get lost, really won't be - just overly anal when planning a route.

Right - my wife wouldn't let me out of the house if I had to get rescued my first time out alone. Then again, she still thinks I went the scenic route. Woodpecker is scenic, so does that count?
Maybe we should have someone go out and get stuck on purpose so that we could do a rescue. Kind of like hide a seek, but with Jeeps!
