Hi all I tried flat towing my jeep today and had a problem. When trying to pull the jeep the wheel would turn sharp left and stick there basically locking up. I had the transfer case in N with the trans in first. The jeep is a 90 yj and has lock right front and rear. Do you think the lockrighs are doing this? Will I need to undo the front driveshaft when I want to flat tow it? The trailer I usually use to tow it is broken, and wont be fixed for the next few weeks, so I would like to figure out what is going on with the jeep. It doesnt do it when the transfer is in 2WD only N.
thanks

Sounds like N (Neutral) isn't really the case, with the transfercase in Neutral can you turn the front driveshaft by hand very freely? Since you say this does not occur in 2H then something is loading the front driveshaft when you place the transfercase shifter in Neutral...
Reason being, YJ's with the original front axle have a axle disconnect, with a Lockright installed the left side tire is constantly loaded via the lockright as the right side axle is disconnected... The Lockright may disengage occasionally but they usually stay left front side tire engaged (past experiences)
If the transfercase shifter is out of adjustment, say Neutral is actually 4H (maybe just engaging 4H), there would be enough load via the Lockright for the vehicle to pull to the left as you described...
Best way to test would be to put the transfercase in neutral and the transmission in gear (manual I am assuming) with the left front tire jacked up off the ground (use jack stands) you should be able to easily turn the front driveshaft and have the left front wheel turn also... If you cannot turn the driveshaft then the transfercase is not actually in neutral and needs a shifter adjustment (or modification if there is no adjustment, I honestly don't know on your particular model)... I do know that body lifts play hell with the YJ and TJ transfercase shifters and if you do have a body lift and the transfercase shifter was not modified this could be a cause of some issues...
Good luck with it....

Well in neutral the driveshafts still seem to be locked. And yes it does have a body lift, so maybe this is the problem! Is there a certain way of adjusting the transfer case? I cant wait to get this body lift off, I cant igure out why they would put a 3" bod lift on, o well, maybe I can figure this out.
Thanks
