Question - on average, how much is each person spending on donations? I'm really REALLY strapped for cash. If i can swing going on the run, I won't be able to afford to buy much supplies if any. Are there members who are going just to bring a smile to people's faces and enjoy the jeepin company or is everyone stocking the backs of their jeeps to the hilt?

Chris....don't worry about how much you can bring. While this is a relief run, there are no measuring sticks being set up by which your worth is going to be evaluated. That is NOT the purpose of what is happening. I've gotten some help from friends so consider some of what I have as your contribution to the effort. In the end, it is all going into the same place. I certainly hope I can bring a smile to someone's face when we get there. That to me is just as important as giving them something wet to drink or clean socks to put on. ;>)

Subject: Re: um.. carburetor rebuild

It's not hard at all. Head to Napa and pick up a rebuild kit for your
particular model. You may have to get a model number off of the carb, but
the make and model should allow them to look it up and get what you need.

Then just set up a nice clean area on a bench or something and begin to
meticulously take it apart. Set all of the pieces out and remember how it
all came apart. Get some carb cleaner and clean off all of the pieces real
well. The rebuild kit will have some instructions as to what settings to
check. I don't know the carb on your Ford, but quadrajets often need to have
the main throttle plate rebushing'd. You'll do yourself a BIG favor if you
find a good carburetor shop here in town, ask them about the carb you have
and the types of special things that are done when rebuilding one. Maybe get
them to do the things like rebushing the plate (if needed) and things like
that. But dissassembly, cleaning, and reassemblying is easy. A typical
Q-jet rebuild runs about $50 for parts and to have a shop redo the bushings
in the throttle plate. Runs like nearly brand new once your done.

Go at it, take your time, and ask the experts what things to look for.
You'll learn a lot in the end and save yourself some $$ in the long run.

Chris I am probably going to spend about 25 bucks on dog/cat food, 5
on a sticker and 5 for a raffle ticket for a GRAND total of 35 bucks.
I too own a jeep and am strapped for cash lol. Along with the 20
bucks in gas and another 10 to 20 for lunch I am figuring spending
about 65-75 bucks this weekend.

Chris,

I feel that if you can swing going then GO. I would not worry about taking things if you can not afford it. I am sure you can help someone out and take some stuff off of them to take in your Jeep.

I know I will have a hard time getting it all on my Jeep.

Hi all

I talked it over with Pam and we decided that making the run to
Payson on Saturday is more important than making runs to the dump
with junk from our old house, so the John Deere Jeep will be
available to haul stuff to Payson. I'm going to Costco tonight to
pick up our contribution and I've talked to several people here at
work about donating. If anyone has too much stuff to haul in
their "cargo area challenged" little Jeep I'll be happy to put it in
mine.

See y'all Saturday morning

Hi guys/gals;
I just stopped by the donation drop off location in Payson. It is just as
you come into Payson on the left side of 87.
It is the old feed store and there is a sign with a horse on it...a big
one.;-)

I spoke to Lou, she is the one in charge of the donations there. They are
sorting everything and that stuff that does not get used will be saved for
other emergencies up here or for other fires. Hopefully not.

Who ever is leading this charge should give her a call at 928-474-1945. She
will be home around 9pm. Leave a call back number if she is not home yet.
They were very excited about you coming up.

If you want I can meet the group as you get to the top of the hill and show
you where to go. We will have to park in a couple of areas but we should be
able to fit around the site. If we want a group picture we can go to the
rodeo grounds after dropping the stuff off.
Call me 928-468-1900

Subject: Jack ?

I was working on the Jeep the other day and got to wondering how does everyone change their tires on the trail? I've got 35" Boggers and I was just messing around and jacked up the Jeep with a highlift Jack. It seems a little unstable when I get it high enough in the air to take the tire off. Is that just something I need to be careful of or is there a better way to do all that? I'm worried about trying to break off the lug nuts with a 4-way and the Jeep start rocking or something and just fall off the jack, or wrestling the tire off and it comming down, either way just curious as to how ya'll do it.
TIA
Chris

Thanks for taking care of this for us Ross... I was a little concerned that
the Red Cross may not leave unused materials in Payson or at least in
Arizona... it's good to hear that the stuff will stay here regardless of
whether or not it gets used for this emergency.

By the way; it's nice to hear the term "very excited" when you described how
she felt about our pending trip to Payson :)

Thanks Again Ross,
