i've got a web wheeling dilema... if you were in the market for rear corner armor for your wrangler or cj would you prefer to get full corner armor with or without those horizontal bars (also called "crapper bars") above the rear wheel wells?

I can see that they be good to have to kindof protect softtop or hardtop a little better than if you didn't have the bars... they would also protect that top edge around the tub from getting crushed so that you could still use your softtop/hardtop... but are there any disadvantages?...

do you think those bars could get in the way or hit/snag against obsticles? are they overkill and unecessary or..., ugly? I ask because the ones I'm looking at getting with those bars are made by Rokmen and with their design they are meant to be used with rockergaurds that extend all the way to the wheel wells (similar to the genright design)... My current rocker gaurds only extend to the flares so I'd have a gap there behind the rock sliders.

so, are the crapper bars really worth it or would you go with the PSC corners (without the flares or bars)... they are a little less money and immediately available at a local shop. The PSC design will work with my current rocker gaurds.

decisions decisions - thank you and congratulations on arriving at the end of a long winded question.

I think mine have helped (I have the Toys by Troy ones). I've still hit the top tub a little bit, but not too bad. I can't tell how bad it would be if I didn't have them, but I can't think of any time that they've gotten in the way. If anything, they give me a little more confidence when slamming that part of my Jeep into rocks.

I like the bars, seemed to help when Hyjak rolled in Moab.

Hey, at least you got your suspension sorted out

FWIW, I went through the same thought process, but decided against the crapper bars. I have seen them stop forward progress before, but have also seen them keep rocks off of the rest of the Jeep as well.

I purchased PSC corners with the 3 inch flares. Hyjak has the 6 inch flares which are too wide in my humble opinion. If I were to do it all again I would have Monkeybars do a set with 4.5 inch flares, not bars of any kind. Just my .02.

I have not seen the Monkey bars, I don't care for the look of the seperate crapper bar above the tire or flare. I do like Hyjaks built in bar as part of the flare...

Monkeybars is a forum sponsor here. He did my roll cage, and has done work on many others. Brian does great work for excellent prices!! He also does sculptures and such if anyone is interested.

The PSC crusher corners are stout enough to take quite a bit of abuse without the additional "crapper" bars. My flares allow me to pivot my Jeep around obstacles with a little cosmetic rash. (it does actually buff out) I prefer the flares to the bars, but that's just a visual preference on my part. It did take me a while to really appreciate my wings, now I use them for everything and don't regret adding them.

I went through the same dilema and I bought a set of used Toys X Troy side sliders from another member and I they have saved my tub especially around the lip area where the soft top hooks into.

I have been on trails with others that only had the ones with out the crapper bars and they received damage in that area when I came through the same obstacle unscathed. They definitely keep you off the rocks and I haven't noticed them getting hung up anywhere so far.

The only damage I have received in that area is the area exposed where the fender attaches. That's the only complaint I have with the T x T's. If I go with another brand that covers the whole area I will definitely have the crapper bars welded on.

I agree w/Wayne. My flares take alot of abuse, but I only got them to match the front PSC fenders. If I didn't have the fronts w/the flares, I'd have just added the crapper bar.

i think what I'm going to do is go for the PSC's that will work with my existing rock sliders. I might later ask brian or someone to weld some 'capper bars

Crapper bars? Don't leave home without them. :D

They have PAID for themselves several times over. I had the TbT ones and when I changed over to the Rokmen corners I had John at Hunter OR build me a set. Crapper bars are worth their weight in gold if you wheel hard and are doing the4+++ trails.

I have laid my rig over twice on them, used them countless times as a tool to rub against rocks and walls in attacking a obstacle.

I designed my own and John built them. I think it solves some of the issues of other designs. ;)

We picked up the PSC Crusher corners (with LED cutouts and no flares) and a Warn gas tank skid today from Cole at 4 wheelers. Pretty cool Christmas presents for me :D I'm told though that I can't install them till after Christmas! I'm just happy I get them :D

maybe later I'll add some bars to it
