Is access still open to Hackberry via Oak Flats and up to the plateau trailhead where the old chevy truck sits off the trail??
I havent been up there since earlier this year and the mining operation was continuing to spread...should the trail through the operation still be open??
Thanks...

I talked to a Sandy Kastner at the mine site.
She said "no problem" with access.
As a matter of fact,Sandy and her husband are Jeepers.

Ok. Good news, last time I was up there the miners were helpful in clearing off the trail and letting us through...although we had to SQUEEZE/go over a few big boulders and this dumpster that was crowding the trail...I have to admit it was a good 'gatekeeper' obstacle though

Update - a small group of us ran Hackberry last weekend. Trail access is open at the Oak Flats campground entrance still.
The section of trail through the wash that is narrow, brushy and rocky, that begins/ends near the pond w/ the windmill has been graded - this section as pictured below -

Also, someone has pulled or winched the BIG rock off from the powerline hill step/ledge. This rock that is under SavageSun's pass. front tire -

Why would they move it?! WTH?! I would like to do this trail. Is it that hard? Would it be a nice late afternoon/evening run?

Someone probably moved it because they couldnt make it up? Who knows...but it is a shame. The rock now sits about 10 feet below where it once was, just between the tree and rock outcropping.
The trail is not too difficult, but that also depends on which way you run the hills and or loops. I would recommend at least a rear locker and 31" tires as minimum, and some armor.
You could make a late run out of it, I've run it at night.
It is a fun trail, go check it out before anymore of it gets bulldozed...and make the extra trip over to Devils Canyon too. Cool place
