Is anyone going that might be slow? My Jeep will do 70 on the freeway
but up hills it slows down, and I do not want to hold anyone up?
So if others are holding people up then that will be OK as long as I am
not the only one.

I've been getting the word out to everyone in my company. I should have
quite a turn out of supplies by the end of the week. I even got my boss
involved. Although he didn't have any of the supplies on the list, he
contributed $1500 to the Salvation Army this afternoon referencing the
AZVJC as his motivation.
This thing is going to be big!!!!

Wow! I would have to agree with David on this one. The Red Cross wants
to
present the appearance that they are the end all. Only they can
generate
help, and only they can dispurse help. Last night on the news they were
showing where the Red Cross took over a shelter and wouldn't let the
locals
help out. It's kind of alarming for a volunteer group to get so power
hungry. Oh well, lets go up there and show our support!

I am a Military firefighter in Tucson. As far as I know to help out as a
wildland firefighter in Arizona you need to have an International Fire
Service Accreditation (IFSAC) for firefighter I and II. which include
wildland firefighting in the certification. Also you need to have several
hours of hands on training as well. I am not 100% sure so correct me if I
am
wrong, but this is the information I got from my department and also the Mt.
Lemmon Fire Department.

Why I am driving to Payson:
I've been laid up in the hospital a few times....once as a teenager when I buried a chainsaw into my left knee. I got get well cards from relatives and they usually contained a $5 bill for a get well present. The local folks that were able to drop by and wish me a speedy recovery meant more to me, personally. They helped lift my spirits and I knew that they went out of their way to stop and see me. Both, however, were greatly appreciated.
Just thought I would share my take on this.
Timber Chucker!
p.s. Now, if I could have figured out a way to get those folks that stopped by to leave me $5 too, that would have been great! LOL

Hello all,
All I can say is wow. It is amazing how much a bunch of
unorganized, land trashin, red neck, spotted owl eating motor heads
can accomplish LOL.
Since Tuesday.
1. roughly 60+ jeeps sighned up with whatever it is they can
contribute (time,money,goods)
2. several volunteers for large trucks.
3. stickers being printed
4. what sounds like a very excited town that is soon to know who
really cares about them, their pets and the land they live on and
that we use responsibley
5. an awsome raffle that is sure to generate some dough for donation.
6. the opportunity to show my son what a good neighbor is.
I'm sure that I have missed a few things but again 'WOW'. Great job
floks and I look forward to seeing all of you on sat.
BTW-
Where are the greenies in all of this - I have heard of no mass
donations of either time or effort or material goods. Maybe the money
is actually glued to their coffers or all of their checks are
preprinted with the laweyers names on them.

water (1.5L); bleach; canned cat (the "and" disappeared)
Second line: dog food, socks etc...

I think the vast differences in compensation between the

No one is really talking about it either because you just
don't criticize anything having to do with September 11th.
Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because it says
something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality
of this country.
If you lost a family member in the September 11th attack,
you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is
a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7
million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier
killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct
death benefit, half of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs.
If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until
you remarry.
And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under
18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a
screeching halt.
Keep in mind that some of the people that are getting an
average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining
that it's not enough.
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims
from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization
asking for the same deal that the September 11th families are
getting.
In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in
the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.
You see where this is going, don't you?
Folks, this is part and parcel of over fifty years of
entitlement politics in this country.
It's just really sad.
"Patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion
but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime."-Adlai
E. Stevenson, Jr.
Every time when a pay raise comes up for the military they
usually receive next to nothing of a raise.
Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while
their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low
rent housing.
However our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves a raise,
and many of you don't know that they only have to be in
Congress onetime to receive a pension that is more than
$15,000 per month and most are now equal to be millionaires
plus.
They also do not receive Social Security on retirement
because they didn't have to pay into the system.
If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get
out as an E-7 you may receive a pension of $1,000 per month,
and the very people who placed you in harms way receive a
pension of $15,000 per month.
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon
and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and
lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.

Or people can go out and buy one of the "Team Arizona" t-shirts that are
being sold at Osco, Circle-K and Albertsons. There is a white version
that honors the Show Low Fire Department and a blue version that honors
the Heber-Overgaard-Forest Lakes fire departments. The shirts cost $10
and the money goes to the corresponding fire departments.
Wearing all red might be nice but I don't think it is real important.
The main purpose of going to Payson is to help the victims - not to
make a political statement. There are times to put certain things
aside and this is one of them.

I just spoke with the Payson Police Department and they are expecting us and

The lady I spoke with seemed excited about us coming out AND she was already

Hi Gang,
I just spoke with the Payson Police Department and they are expecting us and
will likely be providing support for us to get through the town quickly.
The lady I spoke with seemed excited about us coming out AND she was already
aware that we were coming... apparently there is a bit of a buzz about it
going through the town.
I'll be contacting the Payson newspaper next...

Subject: [az_vjc] funny story about payson supply list
I printed (without reviewing) and handed out the supply list that was
generated by azvjc to all the employees of the firm I work at.
Needless to say the formating was a little off! For example the list
contained on the first line:
water (1.5L); bleach; canned cat (the "and" disappeared)
Second line: dog food, socks etc...
Well everyone wanted to donate canned cats but did not know where to
buy them! Aren't canned cats a type of dog food???
I had to laugh...

Subject: [OT] FW: military families
What's a Military Family Worth?
by Rush Limbaugh, March 11, 2002
I think the vast differences in compensation between the
victims of the September 11th casualty, and those who die
serving the country in uniform, are profound.
