The front passenger seat in my 97 TJ decided that it will no longer rotate forward. The seat back folds, the seat moves on the track, but the seat will not rotate forward/up for access to the rear seat.
I found the release lever under the seat, and it will work if I trip that. There is a cable under there that has become disconnected. I can re hook it no problem, but I suspect that it has become disconnected at the other end.
So, my question(s) is/are:
Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, how did you fix it?
Does anyone know where the other end of that cable hooks to? It disappears into the upholstery, and I really don't want to take the seat apart if I don't have to
thanks,
Curly

I think the cable you are speaking of goes to the little pull handle on the back of the seat!?
I would have to look at it, and then I would be able to tell you what it goes too what it does... ad probably be able to fix it on th spot.
Send me a pm and we could meet up soon to fix it.

I just found a TSB that I think is your problem
here is the info
NO: 23-63-96
GROUP: Body
DATE: Oct. 18, 1996
SUBJECT:
EZ Entry Seat Back Release Cable Retention
MODELS:
1997 (TJ) Wrangler
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The front seat back may not release using the EZ Entry pull strap loop located in the upper seat back. The seat back can still be released using the lower release lever.
DIAGNOSIS:
Inspect the cable attachment at the lower release lever at the back of the seat back. If the cable has separated from the lever pin, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
1 06015756 Tie Strap
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves attaching the seat back release lever cable to the lever pin and installing a tie strap to retain the cable end.
1. Install the cable onto the release lever pin.
2. Position the tie strap around the cable end as shown and tighten the tie strap.
3. Trim the excess from the tie strap end.

Ademster,
The cable you mention is intact, the cable in question is under the lower seat cushion. I have a feeling it is attached to the side hinge of the seat so that when the seat back is folded, it releases the seat track to slide forward.
I have the seat out, but I really don't want to start pulling off the upholstery. I'm sure you know what a pain that can be.
Yes, I'm in Yuma, except for today. I'm at Gateway CC for a meeting, at least until noon. I'm driving a rental though, so that still doesn't help.
Thanks for trying.
Anyone else?
