A view of Phoenix that highlights one of our biggest problems... Air Pollution.
It was taken on the way up to Four Peaks. Notice the nice brown layer?

Been here since I was 2, gets worse every year... :( I loathe the winter when you cant even see the buildings in downtown Phoenix from South Mountain because the brown cloud hides them...

I can sometimes feel my eyes burn when I come into Phx now too. I lived the first 18 years of my life there and the cloud got worse every year.
No smog up here at all. Sometimes I forget it exsists. I could show you all a picture but I wouldnt want to make you all jealous of my fresh air.

We used to see this from the jump plane out at Wild Horse, used to blame it on the cotton farmers. Now, with all the construction, (mostly on old cotton fields) we have a new villain, Developers....

And here I thought you guys blamed all that stuff on the purple haired snowbirds driving those old cars from the midwest. I think most of us aren't even there yet?
But, OTH, we are packing our stuff and getting ready to come down there.

I have been here since 1960 it is getting worse. We used to blame it on the copper mines. Back in the early 60's you could see South Mountain clearly from our house on Indian School Rd.
When flying into the Philippines you get into the grey cloud (diesels, etc.) at 5,200 Ft. Things could be worse. My wife likes the lack of pollution here, at least that is what she used to say.

I just got back from the Philippines, it must be those darn Jeepney's causing all the smog over there.

Do these look vaguely familiar?...Are you wondering where the Jeepney came from?
Check out this link for more info...

7 Philippino Pesos to ride one of these across Manila is dirt cheap...equivalent to about 16cents US.

Those pictures put a smile on my face. Thank you. My wife said 7 PHP is cheap & if you are lucky both B*tt cheeks will be on the seat. She thinks that first picture is in San Juan by Megamall. Being 6'2" makes it fun to not hit the head when bending & walking between the rows of people to get a place to sit.
Since you are familiar with the Jeepney do you know what a Stainless is??
I do miss the smell of the belching diesels. I was riding in a Jeepney & the driver made a hard stop. I told my wife I thought he was trying to make more room in the back to fit a couple more people. He must have heard me because he hit the brakes harder at the next stop. It made enough room for a couple more people. Memories.. Got to go back soon.

I've met some of the nicest, most genuine people while visiting. I've really enjoyed my 2 trips this year. I always come back with a new perspective on life in the US...we take way too much for granted.
But to be perfectly honest, I only rode in a Jeepney one time. It was really hot and humid (imagine that!) so I didn't feel like climbing up that steep hill to the "Palace in the Sky" at the Taal Volcano rim.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taal_Volcano
I took a city tour of Manila and the guide explained why they call it a Jeepney. Because it's a Jeep and you bump knees with the person sitting on the bench across from you. I didn't have the heart to tell him Jeeps don't have Isuzu engines. :)
Hmmm...I'm guessing the Stainless are the real shiny ones with stainless sheet metal bodies? They look a lot better than the ones with galvanized steel bodies... :p
Here's one of my favorites...

Now how's that for ideas on your next Jeep upgrade!
Cheers,
Frank

The Stainless is the one that looks like a regular jeep made with stainless sheet metal bodies. I have wondered what it would cost to get a tub shipped here & build it here.
