Here's some pics from 9,500ft up on Mt. Humphreys. I went up there today and goofed around a little. Its only 20 minutes from my house so why not, right?

My avatar says it all as far as that is concerned...I got lift, tires, lockers, gears etc since that picture was taken, I can only imagine what the deep stuff will be like this year.

Absolutely! I can't wait for a snow run, the toyota and I have pretty much got the course figured out.

During the snow season many of the forest roads close, there are a few that stay open and Cinder Hills is open too. Most likely the run will be out at Cinder Hills in the snow, it is a great place for winter wheeling. Lots of hills, dips, holes and things to get stuck in or on, but many obstacles are fully optional. Also very wide open so there is no limit on the amount of Jeeps that can come.

Nice pics. Reminds me of some forest areas back east where moss, ferns, and mushrooms grow on almost everything. Plus the forest puts on a nice color show in the fall. ;)

FR151? Could a nearly stock Commander run it without getting scratched up from brush?

Is this the route you took? http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/recreation/peaks/around-peaks-scenic.shtml

Yeah that is essentially the trail. I follow it through a little past locket meadow and out to the other highway. I have been on all the forest roads up there and they offer a simmilar experience. Yes a stock commender could make it. I dont know about up the little jaunt to the side that takes you straight up but you could definitely navigate 99% of the roads up there...Better hurry though, its gonna snow soon!

Hmmm... not sure if I will make it up there this Fall. I will be up on Thanksgiving weekend but guessing it will be gray and leafless by then.

Not really really worried about the XK making it as it doesn't appear to be any rock climbing (the long wheelbase getting hung up on something is about the only thing that will stop it since it has the QDII system). Just don't want to get it all scratched up like I always manage to do to the Cherokee.

By the way... would love to bring the Cherokee up to play in some deep snow this winter.

well it hasnt really snowed too much up there yet. I am going to put together a now run this winter so keep an eye out once it REALLY comes down. I think the peaks have only been dusted thus far.

Looks cool!

We've done the FS-road that runs from Sno-Bowl Rd across to Shultz Pass Road, and the little climb up to Lockett Meadow before, so this would be something a little different. We'll be in Flag Oct 20 - 27th, so got some time to expore!

That was in a stock GMC Yukon 4x4...no problems at all, so to the person with a Commander, you should be fine.

Great pics... I just hiked up that the weekend before last. Didn't know there were good spots to drive too, will check that out next time.

BTW, you mean Humphreys Peak, not Mt. Humphreys, correct? The peak is in Flagstaff, Mt. Humphreys is in California.
