Subject: Heating Problem

My ZJ has developed a heating problem I'm a bit at a lost at.
Because I purchased it last January I decided to give it clean slate,
this meant new fan clutch, serpentine belt, 180 degree thermostat,
bypass hose and coolant, I flushed the system myself. Anyway the
problem presents itself only when I run the AC. Today, as a test, I
drove back home, in 110 heat, 28 miles on surface streets with the
gauge only moving up 1/3 the scale. The last 2 miles I ran the AC and
it jumped up to 210 and as soon as I tuned the car off it started to
boil out of the reservoir. Now, during my commute I stopped the car
twice with out the problem, only after I ran the AC in the last 2
miles it heated up. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks
Jose

Subject: Cherokee Help

Hi
I just picked up a '87 cherokee from a gov surplus auction in Utah.
it looks like it wants to start but the center cable from the
distributer is unplugged. My question is where is the coil/ignition
module that it plugs to? The engine is a 4 cylinder. it's kind of a
wire jungle under the hood, and I know the coil probably is square
like on my TJ. Any help would be nice(and helpful!)
Thanks

Welcome Scott. No offence taken here but I do like to see the history of
a post sometimes. I find some people (SHARKEY) don't add the previous

No worries.

Thanks for the post, Nick. The good work that they do becomes that much more
apparent in an emergency like this. Those who detract from the organization
because they have a successful exec from private industry running the org,
can't see the forest for the trees.

Negative dribble is not constructive in times like these.

My '96 runs at 210 all the time, will creep up a little when
stopped in traffic.
This is with the AC on all the time. It never has boiled out of
the tank. I would guess that your radiator is partially plugged.
The other cause could be a failing water pump but this is not common.

Perhaps it is just clogged fins in the radiator? Bugs? Dust
build-up in the fins?
Maybe loosen up the radiator and the evaporator for the AC and
clean it out between them?

Hope this helps you somehow,
Ralph

I forgot to mention two things, a new 18psi radiator cap and that if
I keep runnig the AC it keeps on geting hotter, I've never had it go
all the way to "hot" because I kill it before that. Another thing, if
I drive at freeway speeds it never gets beyond 210, it's only
in "stop and go" traffic with the AC on, I've had it idle for 90
minutes without the AC and it never heated or boiled. - Jose

Do we have an idea of what time we would leave and what the logistics would

so we all don't get the same thing, or does it matter? I would be

Correct me if I am wrong, but these 8.8's came stock with 4.10's. So unless
you already have a set of front end gears lower than this, you may want to
consider saving some coin, and just regearing the front to match the rear.

Just a thought,

As much of a pain as it will be, I am going to stay with coils.
I would like to have a custom longarm rear end. Anyone want to help
me design it? I actually like the short front arms, for now, and
until I decide to go with tires bigger than the current 35" set I
have on there, I will stay with short arms. The rear end could be
better, and more flexy, so I was thinking about modifying my RE short
arms into long ones. Those are good ends that they use, and I could
canabalize them, and make a four link to get rid of the track bar.
Any ideas/helpers are appreciated.

I work for a trucking company. I asked my boss today if we could donate a truck to bring supplies to some of the relief sights. He said it would be OK but had to get the final OK from the big boss. So if all goes well I'll have access to 48' semi or what ever smaller size they might need. I know last night they (the company I work for) brought 6 pallets of water up to eager but that was in route with one of the normal routes. What I want to do is on my own time, day off and borrow the truck that is why he has to get the OK first.

My boss said he would try to get in contact with the person that that he talked to yesterday at the salvation army and see what kind of delivery help they needed and were it needs to go to and try to get back to me tonight.

Is anyone interested in helping load the trailer if this goes through and they need the help? If there is enough people interested maybe you could car pool up and help unload also? I would be good PR for the club.
Bob

With all that we have been concerned about going out on a run and then a fire starting is a little dimmer now that the officials are looking toward the green-es. I am not saying to go on a run, we need to show the communitee that we are not just here for ourselves and not caring. Putting these efforts together is in the best interest for all not just us!

excellent idea and effort. That way I could drive the jeep.
Keep up the good work everyone.
Not only are we helping the victims,, we are benefiting by great publicity.
Someone mentioned that this where we make a stand, and they were right!!!

Bob

Subject: Supplies in Tucson

After attending the Tucson Rough Riders meeting this evening, and recieving
much support for the cause, I will be attending the run to Payson on
Saturday. I think I have enough of a list to focus on supplies that are
needed, and I have a second truck to drive up if necessary. If anybody in
Tucson wants to donate supplies to this cause I will be happy to meet you
somewhere or even pick them up at your home. I live on the east side of
town, but I'm willing to drive. I recieved some cash donations from people
in the Rough Riders, so I will be doing some shopping before the end of the
week. If you want to donate money, I'm willing to do the shopping, but only
if you are comfortable with it. I can be reached at 241-2597 or via e-mail.
If you know any stores that might be willing to donate or match a purchase
of supplies on the list, please contact them and convince them to do so.

If anybody else from Tucson is interested in caravaning up there, let me
know. It looks like we will have to leave very early to meet up with the
people in phoenix, but it's worth it for a good cause.

Those of you organizing in phoenix, I need a specific time and location to
meet you. An address I can punch up on Mapquest would be great.

Thanks,

Mitch Woodward

Lachlan,

That would be me (Nasser), and my YJ the "Money Eater". I dropped it off to
get a new front pinion bearing installed. The old one lasted one mile! It
helps to have gear oil in the diff. Duh!! It must be the old-timer's
disease.

Full-width axles, SOA, and giant TSLs!!! Looks good, but whose
is it? AZ license AZRFRDR, an AZVJC sticker, and an AZ Ruff Riders
(spelling of club?) sticker. Didn't see anyone inside, so it must
have been getting some work done?

Lachlan

Subject: More closures

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0625coconino-ON.html

June 25, 2002 07:05:00

FLAGSTAFF - The Coconino National Forest will be closed to the public starting Friday because of extreme fire danger, U.S. Forest Service officials announced. This is the first time the entire forest has been closed, officials said.

"Right now, given the extreme fire behavior observed on the Rodeo fire, we can't take chances with public safety and our forest resources," Coconino Forest Supervisor Jim Golden said.

Included in the closure are:

- All campgrounds and day use picnic areas. Reservations will be canceled and refunds issued.

- All trails.

- All lakes.

- Cinder Hills.

- St. Joseph's Youth Camp and Camp Mardecor near Mormon Lake.

- Arizona Snowbowl Skyride.

Special events at the Snowbowl Lodge will be permitted.

For more information about closures and restrictions in the Coconino and Kaibab national forests, call (928) 527-3693 or (877) 864-6985.

Damn, I wanted to hit the cinders soon.. looks like I'll have to wait till winter now (or lotsa rain).
