Definitely a good idea, Nick. It's a good way for those unfamiliar with
their Jeeps to gain some confidence, and of course everyone can check out
what makes that 'other Jeep' tick. I'd recommend someplace here in the
Valley, but haven't been too keen on laying on the concrete since it
started getting hot again. Anybody remember that Saturn commercial where
they had ~1000 owners come in for a day of lessons about their Saturns?

Does anyone have connections through their work or someplace with a large
parking lot? Even though pavement would be warm, taking the Jeeps up
into the hills kind of limits the tools available and the urge for some
people to learn. Wouldn't be a bad way to get some dealership
recognition, either.

Jeff,

Welcome to the group! I have no idea what our headcount is anymore, but
you're welcome to join up with any of the runs we do monthly. As the
summer rolls along, it seems we've got one or even two trips each
weekend; for a little while anyway. Keep an eye on the messages through
here, and feel free to join a run or ask questions about Arizona, Jeeps,
or mundane things. We've probably got someone who knows...

I used to "live" on the river at about 363 and Indian
School Road. My only suggestion is watch for the
dropoffs (flipped a cherokee on one) and the sand may
look hard on the top but it will get ya stuck if you
don't watch what your doing (got my cj stuck to the
frame) ....Besides that it's a blast if I had my jeep
running I'd be there along with ya, but maybe next
time.

Hello everyone,
My son has a friend that owns a GMC S-15, and he want to lift the thing 2 inches. I can do a spring over axle lift in the rear. This I have done on many other vechiles, Jeeps, Suzuki, Chevy(full size), etc. But on the front of the S-15 there is a whole different set up that I have never worked with before. I am not sure what all it involves. Is there a large expense if one does this procedures themselves? What kind of time and material does one need? I know that this is a jeep page, but the young man is a growing four-wheeler, and he needs someone to look up to like us (XJ Jeepers), Ha Ha!! If anyone could help me help him I would appreciate it very much. I have tried the web, fourwheel magazine, etc. with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You S15 should have torsion bar suspension. You can lift the front end up to about an inch by tightening the bolts on the end of the torsion bars. If you want to go any higher you almost have to buy a lift kit because they require longer control arms to keep the geometry's correct and you have to run special boot's on the CV joints that will run at a greater angle without tearing. Also the torsion bars are spaced down front and rear. Even with a kit it's a *****. Superlift makes a kit for it along with 3 or 4 other companies.

Hi all!

If anybody is interested we, the Tucson/Southern
Arizona Chapter are having a run to the Tanks
Saturday. We are planning on meeting at 12 noon
at the Abco on Tanque Verde and Catalina Hwy.
We will be spending the night and coming back to
town Sunday sometime. Scott or Jeffery please feel
free to correct the time or add anything....

Three Tanks is three HUGE natural pools fed by
underground springs and rain run-off. The pools
are very deep and can be jumped into from 12 to 20
foot cliffs. There is even good low water, sandy
spots for small children to play in.
Good area to camp and the nightime temps
should be pretty nice (upper 60s low 70s)
This is in the Redington area, far Easide of
Tucson.

Anyone interested, show up! or e-mail me before
5PM Friday.

I'm as familiar with s-series pickups as I am Jeeps, but you can gain a little lift by cranking in the torsion bars, of course this also stiffens the ride alot and it's only worth maybe an inch. The springover in the rear will probably net you over 4-5" of lift which is quite a bit out of the 2" range.

If your on a budget do a 2" body lift. Otherwise a good suspension lift for an independent front/ leafsprung rear will run well over $1000 dollars for the parts.

Good luck, maybe you can convince him he should sell the GMC in favor of a Jeep ;)

Ok, I'm very jealous of the Tucson run this weekend. It sounds like a
beautiful location! Is this something anyone would be interested in doing
again in the future. I am moving to a new apt. this weekend so I'm totally
out of the picture for any runs this as well as next weekend.
I am however, starting to get really antsy having gotten off-road in quite a

I appreciate your initiative Steve, but I've already started talking with
the Checker folks also. I work for Checker at the corporate office and can
address it at a much higher level than the store manager. Besides that, the
manager has some say in the decision but will not be the one actually giving
permission to do it. I was actually thinking more of the store at 59th Ave
and Camelback due to the fact that it is the largest store in the state and
has one of the largest parking lots. I'm expecting a turnout of anywhere
from 25 to 100 Jeeps, plus all the people that are always attracted to
anything that resembles a car show.

Although if the manager does call you back with a "Yes", good for you! ( If
you get an answer first I'll have to bang some heads together at work!!! )

The east side of the river near Indian School is owned by an old man that likes to shoot into the air if he sees you (scarry as all hell) so don't drive on the hills to the east, try to stay on the main river, when it splits it get tight and has lots of trees, and the usual take tow chains, shovels, and lots of fun :). Hello,
My name is Bill Aylesworth. I have recently joined the distribution

list for your group and am happy to read about all of your four wheeling

adventures. I am looking forward to joining any of you on an outing in
the
near future. I have a 1955 M38A1 Willys. I have been wheeling on most
of
the local trails for some time now. Fun as they are, some of the
trails/trips that I read about sound like a blast. I can’t wait until I

am
up and running and can join you all on a trip.

Lifts to the S-15 (or Chevy S-10) are available, but are expensive, in part, I think, because GM uses a torsion bar for the front suspension. I had a Blazer, and looked into lifting it, and found one at Fly-N-High, but passed on it because of the cost. As I recall it was over $2k. You could give them a call and see what's available. If you do it yourself, it should certainly be cheaper.

Subject: [az_vjc] Lift kit

Thanks,
Keith (Casper)

Welcome Bill! Hope to meet you on the trail soon. I don't think I've
seen any other Willys on the trips I've been on, so I'm looking forward
to checking out your rig. Take care.
