Well, I hate writing about these, but here goes. We got to the air down spot at the entrance to Log Corral at about 10:00 am. 3 vehicles in total.
Scout, Blazer, Jeep. After winding through the wash, and through the gate, we finally come up to the rock garden, where I take the lead in my Scout. I get through the first few obsticles, park up, and walk back to spot the Blazer through next. Long story short, the Blazer slips off a large rock, and the rear drive line takes the full weight of the truck as it comes down onto another rock. The drive line gets a bad dent in it. We go to crawl back up the rocks, and the torque shears the driveline in half. The truck slips back, and gets stuck one more time. We are know stradled across the trail with only the front driveline, and no front locker.
A huge thankyou to Rich (Katvans) in the Jeep, for coming up behind the Blazer, and winching the truck out of there. The day is shot, and we limp back to home territory. We will be back......

Yeah it was a great day for wheeling but we did not get very far. Here are the few pics I got below. But I did get to meet some good people. We will have to try it again soon.

LOL, I agree.
I know right where you guys were. I high centered my Xj in that same garden. The difference was when I did it it was 105 degrees. Today was a much better day to be stuck.

a redi-welder would have come in handy right then! I had a trip like that with Junky once. First rock past Squeze rock Junky breaks a driveline, and I bust open my tranny pan pulling a u-turn in the dark! We both went home!

No offense, Rich - Love to see the classic iron! Nice Blazer and Scout (although your head sticking up through the cage could be a bad thing, eh?!?!?) ;-)
Ended the day in front drive myself yesterday, too. Blew the CV in the rear shaft in FJ. Great weather for carnage, huh?

Since there are no pictures of me, that is not my head or vehicle.:D

Glad to see you guys made it out. I was driving the 4-door JK just ahead of you guys. We had some excitement of our own. Came across an real nice couple probably in thier early 60's in a VERY stock TJ. They were lost and quite nervous, as this was there first time out. They asked if they could follow us out and we were happy to occomodate. All semed to be going well, until we got to a HUGE washout with a 3' vertacle drop and plenty of huge boulders at the bottom. Took us about two hours to get our three vehicles plus our "tag along" through. The owner of the stock TJ was relieved when Leo (the driver of the Defender D90) asked if he wanted someone else to drive his jeep through the washout. Thanks to plenty of rock stacking and the driving skills of Leo (I can't believe I just said that:eek:), everything turned out just fine.

Where abouts was the washout. Was it still on Log Corral ????
Did you guys cross the river, or retrace your steps back through the rock garden.

The washout was about 1 1/2 miles before the river crossing and was still part of the Log Corral trail. We did cross the river rather than re-trace our route coming in. I thought it was a fun trail but just a little to much brush and not enough obstacles for my taste.

I have always enjoyed wheeling with the VJC, with the exception of large numbers on small trails, you can't find a better more helpful group to wheel with! Glad you all made it out!
Silver (Leo too)- Nice job rescuing the old couple!
Autograph - That is the best looking Scout I have ever seen, I love it! Ever have it in a mag?
-Love the blazer guy pic, he's gonna need a CASE of JB weld... :D

Thanks for all the comments on the thread. I do realise this is a Jeep site, and the Scout & Blazer do not belong here, but is is always the Jeep folks that come to the rescue, whatever the lineage of vehicle.
If you look on the front of the Scout, I am winchless. If anyone has one to sell me, speak up. The wife does have me on a budget though. The build of that puppy was astronomical, and I have been cut off spending for awhile.

He is right Autograph, in a gesture of good will I will trade my YJ for your scout. This way you will officially be a genuine member of VJC. I will take on the task of being outcast... But I am only doing it for you! :D

I don't think the VJC cares about it being a scout, blazer, yota etc...its when you run accross a NON JEEP stocker that talks bs or spends more time burning a clutch than driving the trail. Thats when theres a problem!!!!
Again..that scout is bad!!!! I can appreciate any rig that is well built!

Sounds like there needs to be a redemption run. I'm in for a Friday or Sunday (Saturdays are for kids soccer-why I didn't make this one) if someone is interested in showing the way. I haven't done this one yet.

Yes, a redemption run is neccessary. I feel cheated out of what looked to be a tremendoes day of wheeling & fun. ALAS, I am working weekends till Nov 3, and then my buddy has family in town, and wants to take them on a Crown King run. Looks like December before I can get back to Log Corral.
I will post up the the next trip.

Sounds good. Soccer ends in November so I'm more flexible on weekends in December.
I'm up for weekday runs too as I have a bunch of vacation days I need to burn by the end of the year.

Third time is a charm for me. 1st time on Log Corral, my steering lock locked on, while going up the first obstacle. That was interesting, I must say. It took 2 hours to jack up the truck with 2 highlift jacks, because of the rocks we were in, which took the pressure off the steering column. Take off steering wheel, and pound pin back into its hole. That day was shot as well.
This time my buddy shears his driveline, that day gets shot to hell as well.
I think I am cursed for some reason on the trail.
We just got back from a week in Moab, and a week in Ouray of non stop wheeling, so its not as though we are new at this.

So be it. The redemption run is born. I will lead, that way when something else breaks because of the curse, everyone behind can get out. I will post up the run. it probably will be the first week in December. Soccer, work etc etc puts a clamp on activities till then.
