Maybe, just maybe, this is the beginning of the tide changing
directions. Yes, this excess fuel situation is certainly an issue. And
with some of the recent findings about the bogus wild lynx hair and
several other mis-reported endangered animal data....maybe, just maybe
the general population is going to start seeing through the
anti-recreationist's smoke screen. I hope this ripping they are
getting it is not just the media trying to sell newspapers. :(

Has anyone else noticed how bad the Environmental groups are
getting ripped
for this? They are getting blamed for stopping the logging that should
have
removed a lot of the fuel that this fire is burning. Maybe the tide is
turning. Jim F.

Yellowstone got our attention when it went up in smoke more than a decade ago. Each year, the fires seem to get worse.

If it's not California burning, it's New Mexico, or Idaho, or Arizona, or Colorado. Beautiful forests reduced to ashes. Homes destroyed. Animals roasted. Firefighters – often young volunteers – sacrificed needlessly on the altar of "wilderness." On June 19, 2002, more than a half-million acres were burning in seven states. And the fire season is just beginning.

How did the eco-zealots convince a generation of people – and lawmakers – that it is a good thing to deny people access to their forests, their lumber and minerals, and instead, allow the fuel to accumulate so it can explode into devastating waste?

It is not a good thing. Once, foresters were taught to build firebreaks – roads through the forests to stop or slow a fire's progress and to provide access for firefighters.

But no. Eco-zealots claimed that roads in forests are not "natural." School children are told that cutting down a tree is the same as murder. They are told that mining is the same as raping the earth. They are brainwashed with this propaganda every day. What nonsense!

The eco-zealots have been very successful. California Sen. Barbara Boxer continues her annual push for more "wilderness," where trees can be worshiped rather than be used – at least for a while – and then turned into charcoal. Bill Clinton's 58-million-acre "roadless" initiative continues to remove access roads to "wilderness," so it, too, can grow rich with fuel for future fires.

What Congress passes for environmental protection policy often turns out to be environmental destruction. What eco-zealots call "conservation biology" is little more than Gaia worship, seasoned with a splash of science. What many level-headed people are coming to believe is that this eco-zealot hogwash is, at best, wrong-headed and, at worst, just plain stupid.

It's time to recognize this eco-foolishness for what it is, and move on to a common-sense, free enterprise basis for land management and environmental policy.

Property rights and resource-use organizations have been popping up all across the country in recent years to try to counter the influence of the eco-zealot organizations. Leaders of many of these groups met in Alamogordo, N.M., last month to begin developing a national, coordinated strategy. These groups will meet again in Nashville, Tenn., in July to hammer out a plan of action to better coordinate the energy and efforts of hundreds of thousands of people who want relief from the policies imposed to appease the eco-fanatics.

Green groups are 20 years ahead of the property rights resource-use groups. Coordinated funding through the Environmental Grantmakers Association provides these groups with millions of dollars each year. Moreover, these groups have learned the art of corporate welfare.

The Nature Conservancy alone received more than $80 million in government grants during the last Clinton term. This organization was one of five green groups named as "executing agency or collaborating organization" in more than $800 million in grants from the U.N.'s Global Environment Facility in a single year.

The groups meeting in Nashville next month have no such "sugar daddies." What they have is determination, conviction, principle – and common sense. They have no zillion-dollar headquarters in D.C.; they don't fly around the world to perform street-theater to protest progress; they don't blow up ski lodges and research facilities; they don't hire public relations firms to conduct expensive ad campaigns; and they don't take congressmen on junkets or to fancy dinners.

What they do is learn the facts, talk to their neighbors, hold neighborhood meetings, meet with their local elected officials, write letters to the editor, monitor their legislators and vote. And they vote with a passion. They care how candidates have voted in the past, and they care enough to find out how new candidates feel about the issues that concern them.

Green groups have scoffed at their rag-tag counterparts in the past. Green groups spend hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to discredit their counterparts, calling them "industry-front" groups, while knowing full well that it is a lie.

Eco-zealots may be nearing the end of their era of uncontested influence. People are wising up. Why should we pay millions of dollars per wolf to reintroduce this species when the human species still needs food and shelter? Why should we spend millions of dollars for the government to buy up more land when it can't manage the land it already owns?

Why should we continue to put more and more land into wilderness – simply to let it burn?

Subject: azvjc club run to help those displaced by az fires????

Hello all:
I was wondering if anybody would be interested in trying to help out
those displaced by the fires this coming weekend? If we got together
and had a plan would could make a 'run' this coming saturday or
Sunday. We would need to find out what to bring, go etc. Hell, we
could just bring food/water to those who need it. We, as a group,
did a fine job of banning together a few months ago for the 'land
closure' meeting. We should be just as united for this issue. Let
me state that I, at this point, have no idea what I/we could do but
with a little bit of research we certainly could find out what we
could do to help. Any ideas or information would be greatly
appreciated. If you know somebody that knows sombody that
knows...what we could do.
Please post a response, email me at brluse@a... or call me on my
cell 480/510-9691 if you have any ideas or if you are part of a group
already helping. I want to do something other than watch this on the
tube saying "oh thatis really awful" I offroad on these types of
land and those displaced by these fires are no different then me...
Thanks and lets put those jeeps to good use.

I think now it is time for all the people affected by these fires to file a
class action lawsuit against the "Greenies". This would include the Forrest
Service and all the taxpayers in the state of Arizona, as it is our tax
money helping to fight these fires.

It's not only the media, earlier today Jane Hull was ripping on the greenies
pretty good during a press conference. A snippet of that press conference
that was written down:

"Health of forests. Word to Environmentalists and courts ... Mother Nature
is telling us we must clean up the forests Congress must allow. Need
healthier habitat."

She's pissed that "easterners" are telling us how to run things when they've
never even been here, etc. Go Jane!

Where in the Hell are you:

As Senator Kyle, Senator McCain, and Governor Hull have spoken out about
the damage done by the Environmental groups and Judges to stop the
responsible logging and thinning of trees in the forest that have lead to
this terrible fire. Where the Hell are you? Do you get that many donations
from these groups that you would rather let AZ burn to the ground? Get
involved this is a very good opportunity to push getting the Forest Service
to do actual forest management. But we need your help to get this rolling.

I used to donate money to a few different environmentalist
organizations on a regular basis, but in the last couple years being
an avid four wheeler, attending most the BLM meetings and getting
different perspectives on the same issues I have since stopped all
contributions to any eco-organization until I have the time to sit
down and read thouroghly what they are trying to do! I may have been
contributing to the same organizations that are trying to shut down
my recreation areas!! I like Stu and many others in this group do
believe in preserving nature, and using it for recreation. I believe
in tread lightly! I just think it is amazing the way these people
are twisting everyone to believe this junk!! -Rob

I agree!!! I'm willing to help out! I know there is a number you can
call to find out what they need. Maybe if we call the red cross and
see what they say? We could coordinate with them, and bring the
supplies up to holbrook or one of the other relief areas. -Rob

Brought it home yesterday. Thanks RandyS for use of the trailer.

http://community.webshots.com/album/40889988QMzPLm

It's a 1954 Willys 4x4 Station Wagon. Originally it had a 4-cylinder,
but the previous owner swapped in a Ford inline-6 (late 50 or early
60s). Otherwise it is all original -- including the shock absorbers!

Plans are: Cummins 4BT swap, auto tranmission, D44 axles, power
steering, power brakes (maybe ABS), and air conditioning. Not sure about
the transfer case yet. It will most likely get a spring over. And, of
course, a partial restoration on the body and interior.

The Willys will be replacing the ZJ when it is up and running.

I just got off the phone with the red cross and they flat out said
they could use the help. So the need is there. Please provide me
with ideas on who else we can call. The local towns?? I am sure they
could use a few four wheel drives;-)
Brian aka Gray Matter aka the anti-tree hugger environmental attorney.

Local Bashas grocery stores are in cooperation with the red cross. They have
the standard food pallet/money barrel at the front of the store.

A trail run would be cool, and is a very good idea. But, as you dseen on the
news, nobody goes into showlow, or out. Even the press crews are stuck
there. Plus witht he chaos already, the probably dont need more people up
there, despite good intentions.

We could still do the food(or whatever) drive-blankets water, money, food
blankets, even seedlings. I am sure if we pulled, and pooled all of our
items togethor, we could take them to the Phx red cross office, for that
fire, on behalf of the club.

Matt

I don't think we are talking about running to showlow, plus it may
not be there by next weekend. I was talking about doing the run to
one of the relief sites like holbrook or one of the others. -Rob
