Gary,

I am I coping with the withdrawal....well, I am not going through a
withdrawal so I don't have to worry about coping! ;>) For me, it is not
a sickness but rather a hobby. [insert evil laugh)

But....a couple of the guys came over this morning and we installed my
Jim Piatt Hood Lift and then changed out the front brake lines on Les'
TJ. At that point in time, it was getting hot so I moved inside and
called it a day.

This normally would be off topic, but lately can't really talk about
four
wheeling...

Just wanted to say, this is really depressing. There are over 1800
members
in this group and unfortunately only one run scheduled for this
weekend...How
is everyone coping with their 4-wheeling withdrawal???

I want to send my condolences out to everyone in the White Mountain
area. I
have several friends that have homes and land up there that have been
evacuated as well. My prayers go out...

Thanks to Les and ScottK for stopping by and lending a hand this morning (of course Les wanted to get his brake hoses swapped out so he had other motivation). Scott was late getting here on account of him having to wash (and dry) his hair&..like I was going to care or something? NOT!

JoeW&.the hood lift is great. I put a movie of it at the end of the write-up. One of the best fluff mods Ive done in a while&.now, about those gauges&& LOL

I have for sale two NAPA Dana made front upper 2.0 degree adjustable
ball joints. Part number NCP 264-2975. These fit a Dana 30 front end.
They are especially useful in caster and camber adjustments without
the use of adjustable lower and upper control arms. AEV sells these
very same joints for 100 bucks.

http://aev-conversions.com/ssi/osb/...cfm?Category=10

Consumer retail shelf price is 75 bucks a pop. I'll let the pair go
for 115 bucks plus shipping from Tucson AZ 85737. Each include the
joint, cover boot, grease fitting, cotter pin, castle-lated nut,
installation template, installation instructions and box.

They can be seen here:

A good instalation write up can be found here, incuding several
pictures and detailed instructions.

Subject: CJ Fuel Gauge Repair

Since there's no wheelin', I'm lucky that I enjoy working on my old bucket of bolts about as much as I enjoy driving it.

My fuel gauge recently quit working so this morning I installed a new sending unit.

Having drained the tank I was able to monitor its first fill-up from empty and know how much gas I have when the gauge reads empty, 1/4, etc.

Good news. On my 20 gallon tank it has 2 gal when it hits empty (doesn't go below empty when there is less), has 4 gallons at 1/4 tank, 10 gallons at 1/2 tank, 15 gallons at 3/4 tank, and will hold 21 gallons.

Probably not the most exciting post, but what the heck.

My heart and prayers are with those people who have left there homes due to the fire and especially those who have or will loose them. I hope this tragedy results in an honest and productive debate about forest management.

where are all of the wrecked ones that Firestone helped turn into

Brought it home yesterday. Thanks RandyS for use of the trailer.

http://community.webshots.com/album/40889988QMzPLm

It's a 1954 Willys 4x4 Station Wagon. Originally it had a 4-cylinder,
but the previous owner swapped in a Ford inline-6 (late 50 or early
60s). Otherwise it is all original -- including the shock absorbers!

Plans are: Cummins 4BT swap, auto tranmission, D44 axles, power
steering, power brakes (maybe ABS), and air conditioning. Not sure about
the transfer case yet. It will most likely get a spring over. And, of
course, a partial restoration on the body and interior.

The Willys will be replacing the ZJ when it is up and running.

http://members.cox.net/arizonajeep/

Joe.

For reference when you are looking at the pictures, cruising altitude was
11,500 ft, tops of the smoke caused by the fire were around 20,000 ft and
the perimeter is well over 100 miles. The fire was blowing east north-east
and was approximately 15 miles or so from Show Low Airport. I was planning
on landing in Show Low... but they closed the airport to all traffic except
essential fire personnel just as I was getting ready to land. If this thing
continues on the path it is currently on; it looks like it will come very
close to consuming the town of Show Low...

Linda,
Looks like a lot of fun to restore.
If you are going to get rid of the stock wheels, maybe we can work a trade.
I want to put my 51cj3a back to stock as close as I can (without going
broke) and I have 15x 8 chrome spokes on it now.

Any of you with homes, properties, or businesses in the areas threatened by
the current (or future) wildfires, should take a look at the following
website: http://www.barricadegel.com/

While it may at first glance seem impossible, according to many very
reliable sources, this stuff works.

Usual disclaimer, neither I nor INSARO have any connection to this product.

That might be some good stuff but think about the area we are involved in
now. Most homes were built due to the surrounding forest area. If it all
burns you would almost be better off that your home burnt to the ground.
With no trees around it is worth nothing. I have two homes of friends and
family involved in this right now one is in Lindon that burnt last night.
they expressed the same thoughts I just posted.
One other item do not take everything in the news to be the truth. I just
spoke with my friends who last night while the news stated that Timberland
Estates only lost two houses. They know the area and watched the fire go
through that area. Per my friends it is mostly gone. They are trying to keep
the locals calm by reporting better results then they are getting (which is
not dumb). Jim F.

Has anyone else noticed how bad the Environmental groups are getting ripped
for this? They are getting blamed for stopping the logging that should have
removed a lot of the fuel that this fire is burning. Maybe the tide is
turning. Jim F.
