Nick,
Ive no idea if there is a law about it or not. Common sense says that if you have a messy undercarriage, you are going to wash some of it off in the water. (one of the reason I try to always keep mine clean&.wiping off grease, checking for leaks and replacing seals, etc.) I always try to avoid water for that reason (and others).
Now&.I reflect back on what is more commonly found on lakes&.that being boats, which run on gasoline and oil&.most of which have an under water exhaust&..some are two stroke engines&..do you see where this is going? I have seen many a boat with a petroleum trail behind it.
I dont know what to tell you&.but if you run into that that law enforcement officer, you might wish to ask him about the leaky boats too.

Hey all,
Both of my vehicles decided that the Check Engine light is neat-o and they have both been turning them on the past couple days (err, weeks) intermittently. The Jeep (94 YJ) seems to turn it only mostly at night on the way home from work round 6:30 in the gnarly heat, after about 40 minutes on the road. The van (97 Grand Caravan) is very sporadic and just comes on whenever it feels like it.
Any tips on what to look for? Both are in need of an Oil change and a filter cleaning, could this be a cause?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can lend.

The more I ask, the more confused I get. I would really like to get
my exhaust leak taken care of QUICKLY. I'd like to hear some
opposing viewpoints on a new manifold vs. headers. Also, I did call
Darner, as I think David Withers suggested. Julio was on vacation,
but the guy I talked to said that Chrysler is really cracking down on
the replacement deal and it's a per vehicle thing...he has to submit
something to them, and the "co-pay" could end up being as little as
$50 or as much as $400. What I really need, though, is help in the
installation. In lieu of that, maybe someone could suggest a
reputable and fair mechanic? Kris

If you turn the ignition on and off five times very fast, then the
engine light will start flashing codes that it has stored that tell
you some basic things that (may) have gone wrong. (You need to have
a chart handy to tell you what each code means.) But the only really good
way to tell what's what is with a DRB (Diagnostic Readout Box). I
think they are available after-market now. Used to be only a Chrysler
DRB II or III would do, and Chrysler only sold those to the dealerships.
One of my pet projects is to create a box that interface the engine computer
port to an RS-232 port. Then I could write software for my linux computer
and
basically turn it into an Open Source DRB. ;-)
Another project is to move the engine computer out of the engine compartment
and mount it somewhere under the dash, where it's much cooler. The intense
heat of the engine compartment has a tendency to reduce the life of the
computer.

Well as you all may know I have been having problems with my speedo
lately. It would jump all around, sometimes up to 100 and back (to
actual speed for a split second) very sporadically and this causes my
rev limiter to kick in a 3K and is VERY annoying. So I tried taking
the speedo gear out, and as I was driving down the 101 today, my
speedo started jumping around again!! Only now it returns to 0 intead
of actual speed, also since there is no speed reading, it dies if I
push in the clutch and come to a stop, also very annoying. SOOOO, do
you guys think its the speedo or the VSS? PS if anyone would be kind
enough to let me try their VSS around the chandler area I could see
if thats the problem or not. TIA (I have never take my Jeep into a
shop(except for fab work at Hunter) and dont wont to start now!!LOL)

It should work just fine. Your CB radio should produce about 4 watts of

Chris,
my 94 Wrangler's check engine light started coming lighting up on my way home from work most nights, just like yours. My oxygen sensor was going bad.
You can find out what is wrong by doing the on-off-on-off-on trick.
Replacing the oxygen sensor is only a 10 minute job. 5 minutes to find the wrench and five minutes to replace it. I bought mine at Checker. Bosch I think. I didn't need any special tools, just a wrench.

Anybody happen to catch the tribune for saturday? In the numerous articles
about the raging fires, there were two qoutes, in two articles (one
qoute/article). That stated the reason for this (rodeo)fire being so feirce,
so unstoppable was due to people.
We have become so engulfed in "me, I, and no one else" that they stopped
doing the prescribed burns around the Showlow area because, people were
complaining about the smoke. Well that was a few years ago, and now neerly
200,000 acres are burned, homes lost, wildlife destroyed, and not to mention
the long lasting effects of no vegetation, for the wildlfie to eat after the
fires are out.
If the prescribed burns, or "fuel fires" (as they called them in the paper)
the numerous overgrowth, and under brush would not be there to help the fire
jump, 2 lane roads, and numerous fire breaks.
They even had some figures in the paper...that there was an estimated 200
trees per acre, instead of the desired 50 trees per acre.
Just FYI,
Matt

Subject: exhaust manifold vs. headers and Darner

The intense
heat of the engine compartment has a tendency to reduce the life of the
computer.

Subject: That Da$& Speedo again!!!!

Thanks for all the e-mails guys. I went to Fry's Electronics and
they didn't have any Firestik Antenna's. Since I was there, I picked
up a 4' Fiberglass one that was $8.95 (Vanco). It's rated for 500
watts. I'm new to CB's, will this one be ok or should I return it
and get the Firestik? I'd only use the CB for the trails if that
makes a difference.

Angel,
It should work just fine. Your CB radio should produce about 4 watts of
power. You have an adequate safety margin. ;)

Chris,
my 94 Wrangler's check engine light started coming lighting up on my way home from work most nights, just like yours.

Hey all,
Both of my vehicles decided that the Check Engine light is neat-o and they have both been turning them on the past couple days (err, weeks) intermittently.

Just FYI,
Matt

That seems to have the most up-to-date info on the situation. The west side
of Show Low is what's in danger at the moment, but all of Show Low is being
evacuated. My wife's parents live there...on the west side, even. Yuck.

I love to fish these lakes and for the past 5or6 years Roosevelt
hasnt hit 40% full ever, the same goes for San carlos, Alamo, Barlett
and horseshoe. I understand that Canyon and Saguaro needds to be kept
full to supply the valley w/ water, but at the same time Roosey will
be litterally gone w/ more droughts. What Iam getting at, is that
they need to let Apache and maybe even Canyon to go to **** for once
to keep Roosey filled 40% or better.
