Anyone getting sprinkles or just heavy clouds out there?

OK, in reference to all the fire talk. Can someone tell me where to locate
the steel hold mechanism to use with my small automotive fire exts.? I have

Home depot has the next size up - I bought one and thought about modifying

James,
This is ridiculous. A law that seems to allow smoking in the middle of
the street certainly does not suggest tossing the butts in the street. Nor
does it grant permission to litter. I'll bet there are laws against littering
that would apply.
Based on your post, I'm thinking you must be having trouble finding a
place to light one up. ;-)

I agree that the term "four wheeling" could have been left out since the

but not least, I too dislike stereotypes and I am thinking the author of the

Subject: Public Service Announcement?
Has anyone thought, if not, what do you people think about a public service announcement?
Maybe the AZVJC could do a public service announcement comercial... Where we would promote tread lightly, which also means to respect fire regulations, and express how dangerous it is to go out this time of year and the risks that are involved. Maybe we can give the public some tips on what to do with their spare time in the summer such as wrenching parties, and bbq's. It would also be advertisement for the azvjc, and show the BLM that we are doing our best to keep people off the trails. It would make a lot more people aware.
I think all we would need to do is make the comercial, and find a station that would air it. I have seen channel 3 and i think channel 12 do local service announcements... Any input? Is this a dumb idea? Im sure it would give a few of us the chance to show off our jeeps :)

Subject: Smoking, fires, and wheeling
As it says in the Bible, "a house divided, can not stand." We, as a group,
need to unite to provide for the greater good of the sport. Unfortunatly,
just like the anonamous letter showed us, that read all the messages, is
that people dont notice the good, but rather the bad, that is on the
surface. Waht is the first thing the 'watchdog" did, after the quilty party
flicked their cigarette from the GC? They went to check for affiliates. So
thus, we have all been branded for something one member did. Luckily, mike
put out the 'fire' from this one careless ___________(fill in the balnk, not
going to start that arguement :)) and told the person what the VJC stands
for the most part.
"not being aware", is no excuse from breaking the law. Ask any cop when they
ask you the "do you know waht the speed limit?" question. "i didnt know
this was a 45(or whatever) zone." Youre gonna get a ticket. I had the good
fortune to talk to two seperate forest rangers(they were in my welding class
at mcc). Did you know that if they catch you on closed(for whatever reasons)
land, they charge you by the foot(not the mile) past the point of closure? I
have also driven on closed land, back before becoming educated on the
matters. But i wont do it again. Just like the first reports out about the
Rodeo fire, as it claimed to have been started by a "off roader". It doesnt
matter what they were driving, a jeep a truck, a yugo. Since they printed
'off roader', we have all been branded as "bone headed" until we can prove
ourselves otherwise. Driving carelessly, or littering, especially with
cigarette butts(no i dont smkoe either) will have a serious negative effect.
Until the rains come and everything is back to growing, and the smoke gone.
Matt

Nick,
I think that is an interesting idea and has a number of potential benefits. My
suggestion would be to decide on one specific message to get across and to
define the audience that this should be directed at. The good PR that comes
with this - to our club and our sport - is certainly welcome but should not be
the focus. Saving the environment should be the main point. I don't think
it's necessary to give tips on what to do with spare time. All IMO, of course.
I'd be willing to contribute though I don't know a thing about producing such an
announcement and getting it aired.

I am glad I am leaving in 15 minutes to go to Rocky Point. Here we
go...
Let's look at the "anti-smoking" law in Mesa. Under this law you must
be a certain distance away from a public building to be smoking. Part
of the law actually states privately owned public acsessed property.
This means to be in complete compliance with the law in Mesa, you
need to be in the street to smoke. How many times, in Mesa, have you
seen an ash tray in the street? None, right? So the average "Joe"
that is complying with the law and smoking, in Mesa, must throw their
cigarette butt in the street. This is if they are not in their
vehicle, granted. You got to love Mesa.
Some smokers generalize this statement and say, if the city of Mesa
wants us to throw the butts in the street if we are not in a car, we
might as well throw the butts in the street while we are in the car,
what's the difference? This being said, the highway/street in the
city is not going to burn up if a butt is throw on it. If it was
there would NO fireworks this year instead of limited fire works this
year.
Like I said, I am glad I am leaving, in 10 minutes now. Flame away,
you will be here and I will be on the beach.

Until they show the vehicle and its location, I don't agree with the "four-wheeling"
assessment. Most likely, they have a stock Blazer or Durango and were traveling
down a forest road. That's not an illegal activity and I don't think it's the kind of
activity people think of when talking about those "four wheeling IDIOTS".
Also, it wasn't their supposed four wheeling activity that started the fire - anyone
doing anything in the forest who becomes lost may decide to start a signal fire. So,
I think this fire gets chalked up to stupidity and is disassociated with four wheeling.

Ive worked a lot with audio and visual stuff... and I know we have a lot of computer guru's on the list... I thought that maybe it would be a little more interesting, and eye catching if the public saw a whole bunch of really big jeeps driving all over each other or something, and showing that if you join a club, you can keep up with latest blm and forrest services announcements, as well as meet new people, and show that there are clubs like us out there that are goal oriented, and have morals and code of conduct, and maybe if focus towards a younger croud.
I personally think of some of you guys as family... My dad dosnt take part in my life, and I have learned many things from people here. Without the VJC I may still be taking my jeep into Jiffy Lube for my oil changes...

This is VERY true... I can see the PSA now... With men, women, and children working on their jeeps together, and project this sport as one that would fit all ages and genders.

Nick,
I think that is an interesting idea and has a number of potential benefits. My
suggestion would be to decide on one specific message to get across and to
define the audience that this should be directed at.

Matt,
I do not think you are entirely accurate. I read the message to say that
we have a member that did not respect the environment to another's
standards and wanted to inform the club of his actions. If the reporting
individual thinks we all smoke and throw butts is ridicules. Also
thinking that we approve of such actions is just a wrong. Unfortunately
if this person thinks we can "enforce" or "correct" this offending
individual is just hopeful (and probable) thinking. In any case
"branding" or stereotyping people is wrong.

So
thus, we have all been branded for something one member did. Luckily,
mike
put out the 'fire' from this one careless ___________(fill in the balnk,

"not being aware", is no excuse from breaking the law. Ask any cop when

the
Rodeo fire, as it claimed to have been started by a "off roader". It
doesnt

Funny thing is, I really believe that people have the right to kill

Of course... I watched my dad die of emphysema from smoking and my mother

I guess I too am biased...

James,
This is ridiculous.

Matt,
I do not think you are entirely accurate.

As it says in the Bible, "a house divided, can not stand." We, as a
group,
need to unite to provide for the greater good of the sport.
Unfortunatly,
just like the anonamous letter showed us, that read all the messages, is
that people dont notice the good, but rather the bad, that is on the
surface. Waht is the first thing the 'watchdog" did, after the quilty
party
flicked their cigarette from the GC? They went to check for affiliates.
So
thus, we have all been branded for something one member did. Luckily,
mike
put out the 'fire' from this one careless ___________(fill in the balnk,
not
going to start that arguement :)) and told the person what the VJC
stands
for the most part.
"not being aware", is no excuse from breaking the law. Ask any cop when
they
ask you the "do you know waht the speed limit?" question. "i didnt know
this was a 45(or whatever) zone." Youre gonna get a ticket. I had the
good
fortune to talk to two seperate forest rangers(they were in my welding
class
at mcc). Did you know that if they catch you on closed(for whatever
reasons)
land, they charge you by the foot(not the mile) past the point of
closure? I
have also driven on closed land, back before becoming educated on the
matters. But i wont do it again. Just like the first reports out about
the
Rodeo fire, as it claimed to have been started by a "off roader". It
doesnt
matter what they were driving, a jeep a truck, a yugo. Since they
printed
'off roader', we have all been branded as "bone headed" until we can
prove
ourselves otherwise. Driving carelessly, or littering, especially with
cigarette butts(no i dont smkoe either) will have a serious negative
effect.
Until the rains come and everything is back to growing, and the smoke
gone.
Matt

Scott,
I'm finding myself agreeing with you... pretty scary...
<grin>
Funny thing is, I really believe that people have the right to kill
themselves smoking if they want to... just not around me.
Of course... I watched my dad die of emphysema from smoking and my mother
die of a heart attack aided by a lifetime of smoking.
I guess I too am biased...
