I sure hope this is a hoax. I just can not believe anyone would be stupid enough to first run out of gas while off roading, second and most stupid is to start a fire in these conditions to attract attention!!!

Just heard on Channel 5 news:
The CH5 news helicopter spotted a fire near Heber and when they went to investigate, they spotted a woman waving at them. When the A/C landed, the woman told them that she and a friend were 4 wheeling when they ran out of gas 3 days ago. The woman said she set the fire to attract attention. The fire has already burned about 150 acres, and they are getting ready to evacuate Heber and Overgaard because of it. (sp?).
Wasn't this one of the areas closed off????? This could definitely give us a black eye, huh????

Subject: [az_vjc] Help with clutch/transmission diagnosis
We have a 97 TJ sport with 100,000 miles, OEM clutch.
Problem:
Hard shifting, especially down-shifting.
It grinds bad going into 3rd, less so into 2nd, and 5th.
It doesn't grind as bad shifting up through the gears.
Worse when it's cold, when it warms up.
What I've done:
Clutch master cylinder is full.
Neither master or slave cylinder shows any leakage.
No unusual noises.
Double-clutching works, sometimes, other times it makes no change.
What I've heard:
Synchronizer gears worn
Clutch worn
Throwout bearing broken
Slave cylinder bad
Any help would be appreciated. It seems to be getting worse daily
and I'd like to get it fixed before the wife gets stranded on the
road somewhere.
Thanks.

The last figures i seen were 50,000 acres were burning, and showlow(and
vincinity) have been evacuated. We (the subscribers here), are soon to be
underifre too, if it is true that it was started by a 'fellow' four wheeler.
Sure he/she/THEM might not have been responsible enoug to plan ahead(for the
gas), but what will be seen is the fact that they were out four wheeling. Be
ready, this will give the greenies lots to use in their battles. Just like
when those two girls got lost in flagstaff when they took a short cut, a few
years back. Now they have extra gates, etc. I would like to commend Joe
West, for his statement, about skipping the summer, from four wheeling. It
will definetly be hard to say, no to a perfectly safe and enjoyable sport.
But as a whole we should all do this. It is only going to get hotter and
rier, before the summer rains come in late july. Yes, there are open areas,
but if a few more fires(from whatever ignition points) happen, it might be
devastating both to the forest system, and for the sport, in the long run.
Trying to find the loop holes, in who controls what closed/open area, isnt
going to help any.
Global warming, is a interesting subject. Anyone catch the Sunday tribune?
there was an article about how the Permafrost is melting, in Alaska, because
of just the few degree climb. Just thought that was interesting. Things
change, hopefully for the better, but only time will tell.

If my neighbor were to ask me about this 4 wheeler that started a fire, I
would probably respond with
"It is extrememly unfortunate that two women in a 4WD equipped vehicle

this as a rescue plan. Since you know me and are also familiar with my
nicely built Jeep vehicle, it should be obvious that these two people, in no

Jeepin' hobby. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to find that these women

If you read the above, I've stated no lies. I've also managed, IMO, to

GOOD response Stu...........
Our opinions of "ourselves" will eventually win. I have entered into each
of my presentations to the land agencies with...... "I'm tired of
"apologizing" for my sport. I am a responsible recreationist having full
and equal rights to any other recreationist on the lands...... motorized or
non-motorized." We ALL do.................. we need to believe it before
others will. Your type of response will definitely portray this
attitude........ THANKS.

Things
change, hopefully for the better, but only time will tell.

this as a rescue plan. Since you know me and are also familiar with my
nicely built Jeep vehicle, it should be obvious that these two people, in no

If you read the above, I've stated no lies. I've also managed, IMO, to

GOOD response Stu...........
Our opinions of "ourselves" will eventually win. I have entered into each
of my presentations to the land agencies with...... "I'm tired of
"apologizing" for my sport. I am a responsible recreationist having full
and equal rights to any other recreationist on the lands...... motorized or
non-motorized." We ALL do.................. we need to believe it before
others will. Your type of response will definitely portray this
attitude........ THANKS.
