Finally, after years of waiting, we were finalyl able to get my wife her on computer. We had been shareing mine for over 4 years.

We have a bedroom that has become our den, 10x10 kinda size. With the one computer, it would sometimes be a bit warmer, or at least seem a bit warmer. I have your standard PC but a big old bulky 17 inch monitor... it can kick out some heat.

Well with my wife computer in here now, the room is noticabley warmer now. Her computer does kick out some more heat, (she was on of the IMac, all in one deals). I suspect that my computer, with the big old monitor is the main source, her computer just pushed it over the edge.

If I were to replace mine with a flat screen, do they put off less heat? Any input would be great.

I only have a laptop at home, but my office flat screen 17" monitor at the office puts out noticeably less heat than my old 17" monitor did. I would say only about 10% as much heat as the dino monitor. :D

My 19" LCD monitor puts out very little heat. My little thermometer shows the heat coming out of the vents at ~80 degrees. My older CRT put out a lot more than that.

Plus for the price of LCD monitors now, there is no reason not to get one. :D

The computers generate a lot of heat in the tower as well... I recommend adding a few good intake and exhaust fans, and replace the old monitor with a 21.1 wide screen monitor..

or min of 19 wide screen. You wont be sorry with a nice wide screen monitor, makes for viewing webpages, and multiple word docs at the same time nice.

Alsow hen buying one... get one with 5ms or lower response time...

Check the yard sales. I saw some LCD monitors last winter and spring for as little as $100. You never know till you try.

YES - get rid of the old unit and get her a nice LCD screen, the room will be 10 times cooler! I replaced the three CRT's with LCD's in my home office and my monthly electric bill went down just under $50! I am serious - those old crts are heat producers!

OK, I am feeling good about this. I was thinking of checking Fry's Electronic's. Wal Mart maybe? Any suggestions for a good place to look?

Thanks everyone

Definitely check out Fry's - Walmat will only have crap. Widescreen monitors are where its at and going to remain, and anything with a low response time is best(8-6ms or lower).

Got a budget?

Oh, the usual...cheap.

I have looked before I want to say that 150-200 could get me something nice.

I'd recommend ViewSonic and Samsung... Samsung will be the more expensive out of the two, but worth it if you do any photo editing or gaming.

John,
I bought the Samsung 940BW a couple of months ago at Frys for less than $200. It is a great monitor. Watch for the Frys at on Thursdays in the AZ Republic. Also, this looks like a good deal: http://shop4.outpost.com/product/5161406?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
