Both rig's I got have a D30 front. One I guess breaks u-joints or axles all the time. Instead of upgrading the axle right now since I have about five extras of everything to go thru first. Is anyone willing to have a class on how to replace the parts. Or let me know how before I break one on the trail and don't have the proper tools.

i wouldn't worry about the 30, as much as the 35... do you have that in either of the jeeps?

It's not tooo bad, need a 12 point 13 mm socket and also a 36 mm socket. We had a little workshop a few weeks back.

You could also come wheeling with us sometime, should be able to knock out a front in about 30 minutes, gives the rest of us time to eat lunch !
PS - Welcome, those are some nice rigs, I sold my Harley when I started doing this as well !

I am still looking for help on this. I am looking for step by step instructions with pictures would be great or a link to show me how to replace an axle and ujoint on a front D30 W/DRUM BRAKES.
I haven't broke one yet but if i do on the trail I would like to have knowledge and know any short cuts to removal if possible. I also want to make sure I have everything with me I need tool wise.

What year Jeep? Does it have locking hubs? If you have locking hubs you can just unlock hubs and put it in 2wd to get home. If you go to checker tool rental and tell them you want hub tool they should be able to hook you up, then just dont return it. You can pull apart to grease bearings and that will give you idea on how to do it. You could also get chiltons manual it should have the info for you. The unit bearing style like the tj makes it so easy to swap out axle on the trail, but your setup might require replacement at home.

Yeah, on a TJ...he has a CJ.
The CJ is a pain compared to the TJ. I reccomend a Haynes or similar manual because it has an exploded view of the hub. You need a hub socket and some other simple tools. I got a used Haynes manual for $8 and it has helped me through many little things like this.
You will have to repack the bearings and maybe replace them...The CJ does not use unit bearings but it can be fixed just fine on the trail...you just have to be prepared so do it once at home first so you know what to do in an emergency.
